Has anyone ever done a fasting blood test without fasting?

I had a blood test on Friday and I was supposed to fast.

On the way there I realised I’d forgotten this and had breakfast. Rather than not show up I went along and explained to the nurse and she checked my form and said that it shouldn’t affect the result due to the types of test they were doing (it was for a chest compliant).

Anyway, fast fwd to this morning and the surgery calls and books me an appt with the Dr for my liver function, and a nurse appt for my cholesterol and B12.

I explained to the receptionist what had happened in regards to not fasting and asked could she check with the dr to see if this could have impacted the results? As didn’t want to waste 2 separate appts if I should just have the test again. She didn’t know and said I would have to take the appts to find out.

B12 I can see might make sense as I am always tired, get lots of headaches. Cholesterol and liver function seems mad and a quick google suggests could impacted by the results.

does anyone have any insight into this?

TIA

It would be for the cholesterol test. I have liver function tests all the time due to an underlying health issue and I have never been asked to fast for one. Same with B12. I don't get it tested often, but it would only be affected probably if you were taking supplements. Usually they ask me to stop taking an B vitamins in the days leading up to it. I would say that not fasting, it's possible it could have caused you to have higher than you would have had cholesterol, but I don't think it would make really difference for B12 or liver function - unless you ate or drank something unusual in the hours/day leading up to it.

Thanks @mindutopia

That’s a bit concerning then! I wasn’t expecting cholesterol or liver function to be issues at all.
