How would you divide costs?

My family and I are looking at hiring a house for a long weekend for all of us.

Family one – two adults, one toddler and one baby.

Family two - two adults, three teenagers (eldest identifies as a girl, rest are boys)

Family three – one adult, one teenager (girl)

Family four – one adult.

In an ideal world, family one has two bedrooms, family two has three rooms, family three has two (but realistically probably a twin room) and family four has their own room.

Obviously it will depend on the configuration, and we haven’t actually found a place yet, but I think it would be good to set this from the outset as to what is deemed fair.

Per room

Per room. Only thing that might affect that is if one of the rooms comes with an ensuite and one family particularly want that - then they should pay more. If no one particularly wants, draw straws for it.

Rental costs per room, food costs per person with under 10s counted as a fraction of a person.

Accommodation per room. Food per person (with baby and toddler counting as one)

Pay per room seems fairest in this particular scenario, given the make-up of adults to children.

If you went to a hotel everyone would pay for the rooms they want, then either every family would pay their own portion of the food/drinks bill, or divide it by the number of people eating an adult meal. So if you rent a house it should be broadly similar?
