How long did it take you to grow your short hair out?

I had an asymmetrical pixie cut at the end of January, it's now a jawline length bob. I have had a couple of trims every 2 months, just to prevent split ends and to keep the neck area tidy/even out the cut. This may mean it's slightly shorter than it could've been but at least it's maintained some sort of style.
I do like the current style except for the fact that it flicks out. I don't want to straighten/blow-dry it daily though as it'll risk damage.
I'd love to be able to tie it up, bored of the same hairstyle every day. ATM if I tie it up, the hair around the neck is too short, and the ponytail is too short so sticks out horizontally like a tuft.
Just wondering how long it took people on average to grow theirs into something they could tie up? I'm hoping by Christmas it might be easier.

I don't have trims at all if I am growing out. I will go 6 months without a cut, however,my hair does grow ridiculously quickly. Had it done Friday,lo lights, hairdresser said "oh my god, hasn't it grown" last done July.

When I had my hair cut to just below chin level in July last year, I was able to tie it up by early this year without it looking daft - albeit I still needed some pins to hold the shorter hairs at the back of my head up.

I'm growing my pixie cut out. It's going to take forever. I've resigned myself to wearing a hat from now until this time next year 🤦‍♀️

Thank you for your replies, really does feel like forever! This is my longest attempt at growing one out, I usually get to around 6/7 months and then just cut it all off!
Maybe I'll try to go without a trim for a bit longer!

You don't get your hair cut if you are growing it. Not necessary. It is just something that is said to keep hairdressers in business. IMHO.

Mine is at a really awkward flipping out stage too so I hear you! I'm trying to grow my hair post chemo (finished 2 years ago). I cold capped so was never bald. It was all growing back, started on hormone blockers and it fell out down the centre of my head! Luckily, it grew back but obviously that area is shorter which is my main issue.
I've been having mine cut every 4 months. I would try longer between cuts to give it the chance to grow. On average, hair grows 1cm a month so I think it's a case of perseverance and thinking FFS just grow!

Agree, don't cut it, during lockdown etc, I ended up going year without a haircut. Once before DH went to work,to be told,"go home, we've liquidated". I didn't have a haircut for 18 months,it was way down the list of priorities,an unnecessary expense.

I grew out a short a-symmetric bob with undercut and growing out the undercut took about a year (it was shaved incredibly short). Eventually I cut my hair to meet the regrowth, roughly shoulder to about the chin and was able to tie it back pretty quickly after that.

After vowing to never have another undercut, because growing it out is so awkward I got a similar haircut about 2 months ago, I suit it much better than any other style.
