Where to go if you have a sudden eye symptom?

I think there was a thread about this a little while ago, so apologies for asking the same question again.

Where can you go at the weekend if you think there's something wrong with your eye that needs urgent assessment?

Is high street eg SpecSavers ok? Or - as I'm in London - is there anywhere else?

I've got a new symptom of flashing round the edge of the eye (and family history of a sibling who had a detached retina at about the same age as me)

I'd rather not wait until Monday

Moorfields Eye Hospital, if anyone hasn’t said it already. They have an A&E and I would definitely go straight there with your symptoms. They are usually not too long, around a 3 hour wait in my experience.

But they triage you very quickly so if serious, obviously get seen sooner.

It took about 3 hours total.

It's pretty amazing really. You notice a symptom that can indicate a serious problem, can ring up and be told to come in, and then be fully assessed in what is really not that long, by experts in the field. When the NHS works, it works really very well indeed.

Again, thanks for all the help earlier

It was a vitreous detachment, not a retina problem and no treatment needed

The service at Moorfields is amazingly good!

Ah so glad, I thought it was that by the sound of the flashing you were having. Glad you’re ok.
