Managing rolling shift patterns and family life

Does anyone have experience of rolling shift patterns and school age children?
I'm looking at some roles that appeal but I can't make it work as I am separated with a well established arrangement with ex in terms of children.

But I was thinking generally how disruptive it would be. I know not everyone is managing shared care of their children but it must still be awkward having no set routine with children anyway. Or do you get used to it?

I might apply anyway for the practice at interview, although perhaps that's poor form if I know I can't take up a job.

DH does shifts, it’s got its pros and cons. If I want him around for a particular event I have to make sure he books it in well in advance, as I can’t just assume he’ll be off on a Sunday or a Tuesday evening or whatever. DD struggles if he does a run of late shifts as it means she doesn’t see him much.

But on the other hand, he’s able to do a lot of school runs and it’s nice having him around in the day quite often when I’m working from home (snacks delivered to me as I work!) or right now while I’m on maternity leave. And my job is reasonably flexible so just get used to planning around it

Thanks.
The more I think about the more I realise it wouldn't work. 2/3 of the weeks, ie the late one and the overnights would mean DC need to stay with their dad. It's not like being in one household where the pay off is seeing them breakfast schools pick up/drops offs etc. Which I can see would be nice.
Also realise that whilst I'm currently 9-5, it's rare that I can't leave early, come in late as fairly flexible. A job with shift patterns is probably also much less flexible, or not flexible at all.
