Day 4 Wisdom Tooth Extraction - Pain?

I’m so annoyed that I’m still in pain 4 days in. I had a really good day yesterday, but I’ve woken up twice tonight in bits. Throbbing pain in my right cheek, can actually feel my cheek moving. Massaging my temple, sides of my nose and tragus helps some which makes me think it’s TMJ related, but I’m terrified of dry socket.

Why did I do this to myself?

Why have you done it to yourself??

Try an ice pack on your face for 20 mins at a time, it will literally numb the area.

I've had dry socket a few times and it lasts around 10-14 days. Until the nerves cover over. Clove oil and packing the site is all that works.

Are you keeping on top of your meds and sleeping upright? It won't last forever. It will heal and you will get past this.

To avoid dry socket, rinse very very gently, don't swill as you normally would, it's more like tilting your head to the location of the extraction with the tepid saline solution leave it there a moment then gently let out the solution into the sink. If you do this, there's no reason to get dry socket as it leaves the blood clot intact which is what you need to protect it while it heals over,

by day 4 you should be slowly getting past the risk of dry socket anyway.

are you taking paracetamol or maybe stronger painkiller like cocodamol?

Logically I know it had to happen. They were impacted and causing canker sores, inflammation, etc.

I’m not sure if it is dry socket or just regular Day 4 pain. Mine were quite tricky to remove so the dentist said to expect pain for a while.

I stopped taking the prescription painkillers yesterday and switched to Nurofen and Panadol Extra. Sleeping upright too even though it’s uncomfortable for me. Only eating yoghurt, mash and soup.

I know I’m impatient when it comes to being ill/out of sorts, but I did think I’d be better by now 🙈

I only started the salt water rinses yesterday as the dentist told me to wait. Like that, only tilting my head gently to the side and then just letting the water fall out. I think that’s part of my frustration - I’m doing everything strictly by the book

Paracetamol and Ibuprofen

Maybe go back on the cocodamol? At least they're out now. Just think that this time next weekend this will all be a distant memory.
