Such a short life and what a waste. I still feel sad and get pangs whenever I hear his music. The video of him singing Don't Let The Sun Go Down On Me when Elton John joins him on stage is one of my favourite You Tubes ever [heart]. Love him.

Sorry to be maudlin on a Friday night Sad.

Such a loss, his voice was like a warm embrace.
His vocals on the Bonnie Raitt cover of 'I can't make you love me' are heartbreakingly perfect.

Yes I loved and love him and his music very much, and same as you, still miss him 💔

Not about George Michael but I still sometimes feel that way about a singer I really loved who died at 31. Not hugely famous and a very niche type of music but I think he had the most beautiful voice. Still catch myself feeling sad that he's gone from the world over 10 years later.

I don't think it's too strange to mourn the loss of someone who's talent had such a deep impact on you.

queenofthewild · 13/10/2023 21:23

I always loved Wham and George Michael.

It's only in the past couple of years I've realised just how spectacularly beautiful his voice was. So clear and controlled yet packed full of emotion. An utter joy to listen to, and an all round beautiful human who should have loved himself a little bit more.

shivermetimbers77 · 13/10/2023 21:25

Yes still miss him! Loved the Wham documentary.. really made me remember how amazing he was

Celibacyinthesticks · 13/10/2023 21:28

I still find it hard to believe he’s dead, I don’t think he ever found true happiness in his life despite his fame and fortune.

BOOTS52PollyPrissyPants · 13/10/2023 21:29

I also loved George Michael and I cannot watch stuff about him as makes me sad as remember in my 20's living abroad in the sun many many years ago, 30 I think, we used to listen to George on my old cassette player over and over at the beach. He was such a great writer and singer and I wore those cassettes out so much. I remember when he passed and my son told me and he knew I would be heartbroken. He also had a wicked sense of humour. A gorgeous man so handsome.

You have just summed up how I feel perfectly thank you

I meant to say that music we loved and listened to and it brings us back to happier or not happier times in our lives so the music has such meaning and makes us feel all nostalgic all over again when hear it. I think he was truly happy with his Brazilian boyfriend but tragically his boyfriend passed and that with the passing of his mum who he adored was very hard on George. So sad about his sister also.

I think he did find true happiness with Anselmo but after he died I don't think George was ever the same again.

And isn't that sad? Anselmo died when George was only 30. They weren't together long. So tragic that he never got over it.

Through my work I was heavily involved in the publication of his autobiography, Bare, co-written with Tony Parsons. And people didn't even know he was gay then! it seems incredible to think about it now.

I totally agree. Absolutely lovely mam inside and out . His voice was absolutely amazing. I was lucky enough to see him on his faith tour in the late 80s .
Am going to have his song Always with Mary Jane Bligh for my funeral.

EmmaPaella · 13/10/2023 22:01

Loved George. It makes me feel sad too. It still his era in my head.

I often feel sad when I think about performers who died young for some reason. I think it’s something to do with time passing.

RubyGemStone · 13/10/2023 22:05

Loved George so much, listen to him pretty regularly still as such a talent.

Finding out he had died is one of those clear memories, like 9/11, I know exactly where I was, what I was wearing etc. Always think of him on Christmas day now.

Weirdly, all the RB stuff recently brought up Amy Winehouse for me. Watching what she went through with today's eyes. I can't believe how it played out. Tragedy.

maddiemookins16mum · 13/10/2023 22:07

I feel the same way about Freddie. I happened across him singing Love of my Life the other day, it made me cry.

BHRK · 13/10/2023 22:08

100% agree. Still
miss him
and his music

Doyouthinktheyknow · 13/10/2023 22:16

George Michael and Freddie Mercury are the two singers I genuinely feel sadness that they are no longer with us. George had an incredible voice and his death was a real shock.

I was a young teenager when Freddie died and I’ve really never got over it. I’m nearly 50 now🥲 George and Freddie singing Somebody to Love is just incredible.

lillylovely1993 · 20/01/2024 23:10

I missed this thread in October. Just to say George was my Idol back in the 80s and crying watching a documentary this evening about him 💕

Bassetlover · 20/01/2024 23:13

Just watching the special on BBC2 on him. I still feel really sad he's gone. I've been a fan since Young Guns. He was a truly good soul.

George was really one of the good guys. Xx

I too am watching thee BBC2 prog atm.. Some of his songs still make me cry (Jesus to a child for instance).
He really was phenomenal vocally, such an amazing SOH and boy so bloody beautiful.
So so incredibly tragic that he went still so young.

Agree @Jellykat .I am not a morbid person but I have told my children I want Always with George and Mary J Bligh at my funeral! George is two weeks older than me .

Pacificisolated · 20/01/2024 23:28

Like a previous poster I feel the same way about Amy Winehouse. Amazingly talented and all over by 27. Just such a waste and even ten years later the media coverage would have been less harmful. The way her father played into the hands of the tabloids with his stupid public letters etc makes me sick.

Jellykat · 20/01/2024 23:34

Ahaa @lillylovely1993 we are the same age, and you have impeccable taste!
I actually think he became more beautiful the older he got..
