Conflicting approaches to purchases

Which camp do you fall into when buying presents or things, and did you marry into a different ‘culture’?

My DH’s approach goes: I want or need X item > Where’s the easiest place to procure said item > Within budget > Bought.

Mine is more like: I could do with an X item > Reads about different features and considers how I would use the item > I decide if I want it at all and which one I want, taking into account budget > I find the best price and buy it.

Obviously there are many times where the first approach is good, but I think it’s ridiculous to take that approach to more subjective purchases which have to suit the user, like tech or shoes.

That said, I appreciate that DH was raised on a shoestring budget and you were lucky to get anything, never mind being particular over the specs…

The upshot is tonight I will probably paste an appreciative smile on my face for DH’s non-refundable impulsive purchase of something I wanted to look into for myself. Sigh.

Feel free to join in this lighthearted post in the spirit in which it was intended!

I'm like your DH but I do read the returns policy first!
