Can I do something with these ruined cupcakes?

The tops are burnt but the insides are not cooked yet. They are quite thin so I'm not sure if putting them back in the oven will help. I've made two trays of this. I'd hate to just throw them all away. Is there anything I can do with them apart from just composting them?

Put foil over the top ans turn the oven lower down in temp. Cook until middle is cooked then scrap off burnt bit and cover in icing

You could make cake pops with them.

cook them through and make cake pops. Cut off burnt bit, turn cake to crumbs, mix with buttercream, form balls and put on a stick. Dip in sprinkles if you have some.

Cut the tops off and make a trifle with the cake.

WildlingsCorner · 12/10/2023 18:00

Thanks. I'll try to bake them again covered with foil. I've tried making cake pop before and found it really tricky. Maybe I'll making trifle. Is there anything super simple that can be done?

I'd put foil on to get the insides cooked, bung them in the freezer and you can use them for a simple pudding with some fruit and custard.

WildlingsCorner · 12/10/2023 18:03

They also haven't risen properly so they are really shallow. At the moment the bottom is sticking to the cupcake wrapper and the top is burnt so if I lose both the bottom and the tops there will be hardly anything left... All in all a total failure.. I don't need them to look fancy. They are just for us. As long as it tastes good.

I'd turn them into a bread and butter pudding.

PutThatDownNow · 12/10/2023 18:04

How thin are they ? Could you sandwich them together in pairs, with jam and butter cream?

I'd turn them into a bread and butter pudding.

No extra butter though, just slice up, put a bit of jam on, chuck the custard mix over and bake.

Butter, sugar, jam, eggs, cream - can't go wrong really.

Did you put the oven on grill function rather than oven?

No. I suspect Maybe the oven was too hot And hadn't followed the recipe exactly as I was in a big hurry. I out them back and they are cooked through now but the bottom is also slightly burned. Could I make some sort of crumble out of it?

I'm not keen on bread and butter pudding as the kids don't like it.

You could just crumble it and use it as a fruit topping with cream or Ice cream

BananaPyjamaLlama · 13/10/2023 00:19

Do you have a regular sort of garden compost bin op? Dont put cooked (even partially cooked) food in there. Major attractor for rats.

Tbh..... Im all for rescuing baking disasters but I dont think what you have described is salvagable tbh. Sorry!

WildlingsCorner · 13/10/2023 00:27

I don't have a composting bin but our council takes food in the brown bin.

They aren't easy to crumble as they have got pear pieces in them so are too moist. Infact maybe that was the issue. Too much liquidity fruit ...

Thanks for the suggestions. I think just mixing them up with fruits and custard might be the easiest thing to do but considering what a mess they are I'm worried avout wasting more ingredients.
