Eleven Plus Results Day approaching...

We're in Kent and waiting for Kent 11+ results due next Wednesday. Wasn't bothered at all in September but with the results day approaching I feel jittery and quite anxious about it all.

I know it won't change who my DS is even if he passes or fails, but I'm still nervous as he's my first child!

Anyone here feeling similar? Just like to talk to someone in similar situation.

Yes, I’m feeling quite anxious too. Luckily DS seems pretty relaxed about it all, but I am not sure it will stay like that if the outcome isn’t as hoped for.

We don’t have a confirmed date for the result in our region, so I am a wreck every time an e mail comes through.

Not knowing when you'll receive the results must be agony for you. It's good that your DS sounds pretty chilled out about it. Mine too, seems like he's almost looking forward to getting the results.

We'll also need to come up with 4 choices by the end of the month which really doesn't leave a lot of time for us.

We then won't hear from the LA until March which is another big waiting game!

Yes, it’s the same here (although we have 3 choices). I’m so action driven, that all this not knowing is making me slightly unhinged 😅I haven’t even got my head around not really knowing until March.

It’s going to be a long weekend! I really hope you get the outcome you’re hoping for.
it’s very hard knowing we can’t take the blow for them, if it comes, isn’t it?

I feel your pain OP! Not in Kent, but in another area that is wholly selective with no comprehensives.

I've had two children go through this and the waiting was really nail-biting experiences.

I didn't pass my 11+ and I still went to university as did several of my friends.

Both my children did pass, but I would have sold them on their schools if they failed, and had to go to a secondary school. The majority of the friends of both mine went to secondaries and are doing really well.

Not much help I know, but I know how you feel.

OneDerFour · 12/10/2023 16:17

Thanks both. In fact, like you, @triggeringnometry I didn't pass my 11+ and still ended up in university and happy, and I also believe wherever DS goes he will still be fine.

Oh how I wish school would tell us the results when they got them 2 weeks ago! In Kent schools get given the results a lot sooner than us parents in case a child falls short of a mark or two in which case they could appeal on behalf of them.

I think we’re the same - whatever the outcome, they will be fine. It’s just the not knowing and the effort they put into taking the test.

it would be good to just know.

triggeringnometry · 12/10/2023 16:31

@OneDerFour We get our results the same day as the school, but we have to appeal ourselves (or if you are a few marks short you can ask for a Selection Review, which the school contribute to, but is entirely dependent on the parents).

Hope you get news soon

My DS got the indication letter and yeses to all local schools. Now the long wait to find out if he gets an official place. Good luck everyone.

OneDerFour · 12/10/2023 21:50

One question. Would you, as an adult, ask a child still waiting for their results which school they want to go to?

I personally think it's bad taste given that they only have a few days until they find out. Or am I being too sensitive?

I asked my DS prior to results. He only liked one of the 3 local grammars so it was good to have the conversation. I think you have to do what you ultimately feel is right as they are all very different.

Hating this wait, the closer it gets the worse it is. Tomorrow can’t come soon enough, one way or another at least we will know!
