Wrist warmers

What the fuck is the point?

Surely if you have cold wrists, you wear long sleeves, if you have cold hands, you wear gloves. If you need your fingers, you wear fingerless gloves.

No one, I repeat no one, is going to walk around in short sleeves with tubes of wool round their wrists, are they?

Why are they always suggested as gifts for ladies over a certain age?

They seem the most pointless, stupid and ridiculous thing I've heard of in quite a while.

I used to think what's the point in these too, but have you tried them? Obviously in cold weather you wear long sleeves anyway, but if you warm your wrists by wearing wrist warmers you are warming the blood that is passing to your hand and therefore your hands become warmer too but without restricting them like fingerless gloves or normal gloves. They are great! You hardly notice you have them on.

My sleeves cover my wrists Confused

Fingerless gloves and wrist warmers are interchangeable as far as I am concerned.

My sleeves cover my wrists too but I still get cold hands (in the cold). In cold weather if I wear wrist warmers my hands are so much warmer and I can still do lots of things without feeling any restrictions (loading dishwasher, typing, etc) that I might feel if I were wearing gloves. I do feel the cold in my hands a lot though. Maybe if you have great circulation it's not necessary.

I walk around with them on and sometimes with short sleeves. Only in my house as I would put a jacket on to go outside, but I have crap circulation and get cold hands and feet even if the rest of me isn't cold. My core is warm, it doesn't need a jacket on but my extremities get cold so I wear socks and sometimes the wrist gloves. They feel significantly nicer than fingerless gloves. (Which make me feel like I'm dressing up as the home alone villains)

I assume they're given to older women because they also might have bad circulation or cold hands

In the office I wear long sleeves as well as fingerless gloves or wrist warmers because while I'm sitting at the desk I get a little cold.

Handy for dog walking.
Better grip on lead and don't have to keep taking off gloves to pick up dog poo.

LadyOfTheCanyon · 12/10/2023 05:34

Clearly you've never suffered from cold hands, OP. They're a game changer. I work outside and used to suffer from Raynauds. <assumes TV voice> But now, thanks to cashmere wrist warmers, my condition is a thing of the past!

I love wrist warmers, have worn them for years. Most knitwear and coats gape at the wrists or the arms are just too short, so I find they work for me. I love a long bottom covering stretchy vest top too for under looser tops and a neck warmer for wide necklines, they're all the clothing equivalent of draft excluders. Don't knock them 'til you've tried them!

soupweather · 12/10/2023 06:25

I wear them at work. I work in a cold building. They do work and help. Much better than just a long sleeve top or jumper. I was surprised. Don’t know it til you try it.

Alighttouchonthetiller · 12/10/2023 06:35

They're very effective, but you sound like you want them to step outside so you can punch them in the face, OP. One wonders how you will cope when you find out about ear warmer headbands.

Still, at least you're directing your rage towards something really worthwhile. Knitwear, eh? How very dare it.

AllotmentTime · 12/10/2023 06:44

I find them more comfortable than fingerless gloves. Plus they tend to go further up the arm than gloves do, which makes them more effective.

But more importantly, @Alighttouchonthetiller you win the Internet today 😂😂😂

southlondoner02 · 12/10/2023 06:55

I wear them when I wfh in the winter. My house is pretty cold. Much warmer than just having sleeves, easier to work than wearing gloves

randomsabreuse · 12/10/2023 07:04

Much more comfortable for typing (or playing a musical instrument) than fingerless gloves and other than sleeves with thumbholes (which are only comfortable if exactly the right length) they come down further than a normal length sleeve.

They generally have a thumb hole and cover the finger knuckles.

Discovered when volunteering at a sport that involved writing/typing inside and adopted for music outside/WFH when can't be bothered to put main heating on!
