IBS and school runs

People with IBS, how do you deal with school runs?

TMI
I don’t have diarrhea, but need to to use the loo several times before leaving the house. Have horrendous smelling gas, incomplete evacuation and bowel urgency. I was able to deal with the urgency before I had an episiotomy and forceps 2 years ago, not anymore unfortunately.

I’ve cut out trigger foods and tried the fodmap diet. Had a comprehensive stool test done via healthpath. Results showed high gut dysbiosis and low pancreatic amylase. Everything has been ruled out.

When my child turns 3 and starts nursery, I’m worried about school runs and being late because of my annoying gut issues.

Honestly for me IBS is massively triggered by anxiety. So I get anxious about the school run and it hits my stomach and, surprise, I have an IBS attack, regardless of how I've been eating. So I'm taking regular anxiety meds and it helps a bit.

I do find I have to take 2 imodium a lot of days when I have a lot to do because as much as the anxiety meds help the anxiety part, they don't help the very real symptoms of IBS such as urgency. So buscopan help with the cramps and the imodium holds off an attack until I'm home again. It's not ideal but my consultant says it's a way of life for IBS sufferers unfortunately.

I do think if you keep worrying about it it's going to become a very big issue for you. I understand completely as I can't leave home without taking the above meds but I wish I had found other ways to deal with it first.

I get urgency to go. I just avoid coffee/ tea and any really fibourous food until later. Milk is a huge trigger for me as is tea. Though it doesn't always work.

Have you had your bits checked? I discovered recently I have a grade 3 rectocele prolapse and need surgery. Been living it with it for years since my first birth (episiotomy). Hoping that might ease the urgency.
