Son has head pain from vibration in building

Hi everyone

I mentioned once that there was vibration in a house my son and I moved to, it didn't seem to affect my son who would sleep through it.

But today it's been non stop and he's been home and he's told me he has a pain in the top of his head, which is what I get. No one listens. Is there anything I can do, it's a neighbouring device, gaming machine or something I don't know. They don't talk.

It's one thing me getting an aneurysm from this (that's what I imagine from the head pressure) but my son is only a child, is there no one that will listen to us. Environmental Health will come out but it's getting them at a time when it's happening and it's hard and even then they say they would have no proof where it's coming from.

You can't get an aneurysm from a vibration.

TopazQuartz · 11/10/2023 22:10

Well I hope so, this is my child!

Chesapeakebay, is that any vibration? No matter how intense? Even if it causes head pain? Reassuring if so, do you have any information about this I'd like to know more.

You won't get an aneurysm from a vibration.

Is this vibration shaking the houses foundations? Do you mean you are both physically moving from the vibration from your neighbours gaming device?

TopazQuartz · 11/10/2023 22:22

not sure if it's a gaming device or what, not making any claims just what seems most likely. Water ripples in a glass when it's happening

Yea any vibration. Google causes of aneurysm and you'll see they are biological not environmental

TopazQuartz · 11/10/2023 22:24

no we are not physically moving, not like an earthquake, though it is like a mild one which I've been through. If anything it's worse, because its like all your internal organs are moving, head pressure, etc, which wouldn't happen if the whole of you were being moved

Vibrations can be odd - they can travel oddly through buildings, and they can make you feel really uncomfortable.

TopazQuartz · 11/10/2023 22:27

Chesapeakebay, thanks, maybe not in the short term, that is reassuring, but to be honest I think some vibration, if intense would ultimately cause injury, you've only got to look at car accidents etc. Maybe not specifically aneurysm, that was a figure of speech, but bleeds, etc.

How many neighbours do you have? Are you in a semi detached house, a terrace, a flat? Think which houses it could be, keep a list of dates and times and then go and ask them all politely what they’re using at those times.

I have had the same issue for years and could not work out what it was. I can’t hear anything just feel something and then one day my neighbour mentioned he had a sound bar for his tv and I realised it’s that. The bass from the tv travels and vibrates in my head, makes me feel sick. The room he has it in is actually on the far side of his house, he shuts the door to that room now when using it which has helped.

TopazQuartz · 11/10/2023 22:30

LuckOfTheDrawer, thanks for the understanding, hopefully I'll get someone around just when it's happening and then at least it can be proven.

Meanwhile I'll try not to worry, it's a shame when you have to go out to escape it. We went for a drive before he went to bed and as soon as we were in the car we both felt better, though residual head pain it's different and goes away

Is it acoustic/audio vibrations from subsonic bass or something?

TopazQuartz · 11/10/2023 22:35

VisaWoes, thanks, we are in a terraced house but the person on one side is an elderly lady and we visit her, she doesn't have hi tech equipment of any sort lol, plus she's happy to talk and it's obvious she'd look out for anything she was doing that could cause it.

So it's coming from the other side but that neighbour won't talk at all.

Someone else told me it could be a soundbar on a tv, we have a very old tv, maybe it's time to upgrade at christmas!

jenpil, I really don't know, but friends tell me it's got to be a soundbar or subwoofer or something. We have an old tv and are more outdoorsy really

OP, you are not being rational. Vibrations from music from next door or whatever may be annoying but they won't physically harm you. Get some noise cancelling headphones to stick on amd then ignore. You're getting yourself overly wound up and that's transferingn onto your son.

Crinkle77 · 11/10/2023 22:43

If you're in a terrace can you go to the next door but one neighbours and see if they can hear the vibrations too?

SirVixofVixHall · 11/10/2023 22:45

It sounds quite strange, what could they be doing ? Drilling ? Do you have other neighbours who might also have noticed ?

VisaWoes · 11/10/2023 22:47

Can you write him a letter telling him the impact? Ask if he will use something like this? https://www.amazon.co.uk/Sound-Addicted-Isolation-Pads-Soundbar/dp/B08D9N9W3R

TopazQuartz · 11/10/2023 23:04

RedHelenb, where in my comments have I not been rational? Aneurysm was a figure of speech, but the pain is very real. My son isn't home as much as me, I work at home half of the week, so he's not had the same chance as me to have pain. it's been worse this week, son is off atm and has told me he's felt it.

While it's possible that some parents transfer their concern to their kids, others don't. It's not really rational of you to assume so much about me. That's not rational

Is there a train line nearby or something

thanks Crinkle77, I will as soon as I can, I don't really want to knock on their door as (as can be seen from some of the responses here), people can take it the wrong way. I'd rather wait until I meet them in the street or something and see if its appropriate to bring it up in conversation

A lot of people tell me it's most likely a soundbar or subwoofer. I wouldn't know as I don't have these things yet.

Yes there are other neighbours and hopefully one or two have also noticed, we'll see. Thanks

Good question, there is but it's not that. Thanks though.
