If your child is born premature is there any mention of it on the birth certificate or medical records?

Excuse me if this is a stupid question but My ds was born at 33 weeks and is 3 weeks old now and I was just curious about this?

Is it something you need to bring up whenever they are unwell and need to go to the doctors in the future etc? Is there any mention of it on the birth certificate?

Will be in medical records but no mention on the birth certificate(29weekers here). For ages I did need to mention but DD was tiny and had lots of issues now it makes no difference but she is much older.

My youngest was prem, there’s nothing on their birth certificate. I mentioned it at appointments up to them being a year old. It didn’t matter after that.

definitely not at all relevant to birth certificates

We are always interested when a child starts nursery ( school aged three) and sometimes even reception. Sometimes there is an impact on a delayed development.

Nothing on birth cert but it is always worth mentioning until they’re 2-3 years even if it has no lasting effects.

I always mention it for non-routine things where there could be a connection because doctors don’t notice even if it is written in the notes. My son has a (non-serious if controlled) issue more common in kids born prematurely but of course he might have had it anyway. Nevertheless I notice a bit more willingness to investigate more when I mention prematurity/IUGR.

Nothing on birth certificate. It was recorded in the red book at birth and also at each assessment. In the first year for weighs and measures his were recorded with a note to plot back six weeks.

Congratulations on your baby - hope all goes well for you.

Congratulations on your baby.

Theres no need for it to be on the birth certificate.

Without a doubt it’ll come up in medical scenarios and in your future pregnancies.

It doesn’t go on the birth certificate. My twins (now almost 6) were born at 35 weeks and weight was always adjusted back by 5 weeks. One of the twins has no health complications, NT etc and since his two year check with the health visitor which was done 5 weeks after his second birthday it has never been been mentioned. The other twin has disabilities, not because of the prematurity though, and it is still always mentioned in her medical stuff. We did mention it the first year when they were poorly etc and to be fair the doctors often asked but maybe that was because you’d expect twins to be prem. I would mention it if you are with health professionals, especially for the first year.

Why on earth would it be on the birth certificate, a legal document? It’s not really relevant is it?

There is absolutely no need to be so rude!

Is your baby in the neonatal unit. We were given a discharge summary from the neonatal unit to put in her red book. It is on her medical records as well
