Do you save the "best" part of your meal for the end?

I always eat the best bit first... What if I get full in 'boring' food? 😱

If we have sausage, veg and mash, DS will very carefully save his sausages until last... Madness!

No I eat little bits of everything throughout the meal as he flavour combos are the best part to me.

Same here. If I have pizza, pasta, and garlic bread. I will eat a bit of each bit by bit... Like I sometimes have a bit of pizza with a bit of pasta in my mouth at the same time. Then I will pop a bit of pasta on the garlic bread etc.

DH does the freaky 'eating each bit separately' shit. If he has chicken pie, peas, and mash, he eats all the mash (and doesn't touch anything else,) then he eats the peas, and THEN he eats the pie. Or if he has fish and chips and mushy peas, he eats the fish first, THEN the mushy peas, and then he eats the chips. Doesn't eat them 'together.' Fucking weird. 😜

Never ate yorkie puds as a starter in my life!

I never had them served with the main course till I was about 20. Starter, with onion gravy, then the rest of the dinner, that’s the way to do it.

ShutTheDoorBabe · 11/10/2023 18:47

Depends on how quickly it all goes cold.

Mix and match but the last forkfuls are carefully saved so there is a little bit of all the best bits together .

This is what I do!!
I always used to save my favourite till last as a child until one Sunday roast at my friends house and her dad stole the crispiest roast potato I was saving till the end right off my plate. Bastard 😔 ...not that I'm still bitter to this day about it or anything 👀
😂

So yeah, now I make sure I get the nice bits throughout the meal whilst still making sure to finish with the best bits. It's a balancing act 😆

Depends on how quickly it all goes cold.

This is exactly what I came to say and why I always eat my Yorkies first.

JohnNolan · 11/10/2023 18:53

Always save rhe best til last. Always have from being a small child. I can't understand people who eat it first - madness!

Surely2023IsTheYearForMyRainbowBaby · 11/10/2023 19:09

Yes. Although I eat a bit of everything separately first and then work around the plate from least favourite thing to favourite thing. When we had stew and dumpling at home I would eat all the peas first, then the carrots, then the swede, then the potatoes, put the meat into a little pile and eat that after all the veg had gone and finally eat the dumplings and mop up the gravy. I will hasten to add that I do eat stew like a normal person now. Although I'd still save the dumplings till last.

Doyouthinktheyknow · 11/10/2023 19:14

I mix and match my way through my meal. Bi of veg with the nice stuff.

orangesandapples001 · 11/10/2023 19:15

I used to save the best bits until last until I had kids because they always want my best bits too. I can't be bothered with the battle so I scoff that first now 🤣

SiouxsieSiouxStiletto · 11/10/2023 19:18

DS is right. YABU!

EatingCalamari · 11/10/2023 19:19

No-one wants their last mouthful to be broccoli

I would. I love broccoli and would take it over roast potatoes every time.

And yes I do save the best for last.

Comefromaway · 11/10/2023 19:21

I eat bits of everything throughout but if I start to feel full I eat my favourite thing and leave my least favourite.

HallieRaspberry · 11/10/2023 19:30

I eat some of everything throughout but when the best part runs out I don't finish the rest.

Ihaveawonderfulpartner · 11/10/2023 19:41

I like to eat a little bit of each thing together as I go. Partner always cooks us a lovely meal on a Saturday eve and I had my last bit of fillet steak, dauphinois potato and spinach ready to go onto my fork and one of my dogs snatched the piece of steak 🥩 from my plate. I was gutted. Combo ruined.

SquigglePigs · 11/10/2023 18:04

I mix and match through my meal but always make sure I save a couple of "perfect" mouthfuls to the end.

This is what I do too.

rasellagirl · 11/10/2023 20:07

I've honestly never thought about this: just get stuck in.

AmazingBouncingFerret · 11/10/2023 20:08

Specifically roast dinners, I always save crispy parts of squished roast potatoes, bits of meat/stuffing/parsnip/etc and then stuff them into my Yorkshire pudding to make my Sunday roast taco. It’s the perfect end to what is usually a perfect meal!

Dogon · 11/10/2023 20:23

I eat a bit of all but yes, I will save the rest of the best for the last few mouthfuls. Madness not to! What is too full?😄

thelengthspeoplegoto · 11/10/2023 22:54

Does anyone else stuff the yorkies with cauliflower cheese? I do this and save them until last. Sometimes I squash a roast potato on top too. My husband thinks I'm weird.

AnOldCynic · 11/10/2023 23:08

You might drop dead before that last perfect mouthful.

I eat balanced all the way through....

LaurieStrode · 12/10/2023 02:06

Favouritefruits · 11/10/2023 17:52

I used to do this but one Christmas ended up too full for my lovely Yorkshire pud, it was devastating so now I mix and match as I eat. I never want a repeat of the left Yorkshire pudding as clearly it has stayed with me for 15years 😂

🤣🤣🤣

A cautionary tale!

WandaWonder · 12/10/2023 02:48

TheNameIsDickDarlington · 11/10/2023 17:51

For example with a roast dinner you get the broccoli and other boring gross bits put of the way so you can enjoy your roast potatoes and Yorkshire pudding without the impending threat of having to eat a sprout or something.

This is my post of the year, absolutely this by the bucket or sprout load

MrsHughesPinny · 12/10/2023 05:23

I’m one of those weirdos that eats all of one thing at a time, unless it’s meant to be eaten together, like pasta with meat sauce.

With a roast I make sure to eat all the veg first so I’ve ‘been good’ then Yorkshires, then meat, then potatoes!
