Career advice - one last chance?

Early forties. Middle management. At a company I like.

Been at company three years. Have a chance to step up in a year. How can I work on improving how I’m perceived, present myself as a good candidate for senior role. I need to be more confident, deliver more, and realistically learn more outside my own role.

is this too much to achieve? I don’t think anyone has a bad view of me, if anything is good to neutral.

any advice much welcomed!

Is this specific feedback that you e received?

delivering more usually means that you will need to leverage your teams to help.

figure out what your managers pain points are and support with their objectives.

be curious about your coworkers roles when they overlap on projects.

Deffo not too much to achieve and a year is lots of time.
I think there is a fine balance between being really helpful and being perceived as senior.
Have you got a workplace mentor or some coaching you could access?

Career coaching could be helpful?

Beckafett · 10/10/2023 20:35

It was advice that I was given by an old boss who is now a friend. She thought the best way to get promoted was to make herself indispensable but ended up getting trapped in roles.
believe in yourself and go for it!

Can anyone recommend tips for confidence and maybe speaking well in public?

Own your presentation. Practice it. Know your subject inside out. Read one of the TED guides to speaking. Take deep breaths and go do a power stance before you deliver it.
