Did anyone here go to a Montessori primary school when they were a child?

Been thinking about one for my DD. It’s in London and it goes up until age 12. We did a tour last November.

Someone said something about being careful not to give her too alternative an education or she wouldn’t be able to cope with real life.

I wonder how true this is?

How did you find your Montessori primary school experience? It seems lovely from the outside.

I didn't know there were such schools. My understanding is Maria Montessori's approach is positively viewed and advocated in early years. There were some similar schools but a different named theorist near me, I thought about it for my youngest but the teachers were not GTC registered and the academic offering was not adequate for GCSE's. Can I ask what is it about Montessori specifically that you think you'd get in a named school, as opposed to a school that promotes well being and a, play approach or home schooling?

Home schooling isn’t something that I want to do, and the thing I like about the Montessori approach is the autonomy a child has over their learning: they get to take a bit of control over it.

I’m also interested in other schools too, ones with a play-based approach and one that promotes well-being, I’m looking at all options! But the Montessori in London is the one I liked best so far.

I did. It was wonderful up until 7 and then very tiny - i was the only person in my maths group which meant a lot of time working it out myself with a textbook. My mum eventually pulled me out and homeschooled until secondary for which I was completely and utterly unprepared.

The one I’m looking at isn’t tiny - it seems quite big (194 pupils according to the ofsted) but it doesn’t sound like you had a super positive experience!
