Vitamin D deficiency - phosphate

Invisalign23 · 10/10/2023 13:28

Talk to me about supplements, I have been feeling awful for a long, had a load of bloods, normal apart from phosphate ‘on the low side recommend vit D’ thing is I take the spray, VitD and K. I also exercise outside 5 days a week, I’m. Or questioning the result but why given the two former things, I must admit I didn’t use the spray over July and Aug. But have been for several weeks now (test was Fri).

Is there a GP recommend supplement and how should I be taking it??

How many mg are in the spray? Maybe it isn’t delivering the correct dose?
I’m on prescription strength which are 20mg each and I take 2 per day.

these are 25 mg. Maybe try some tablets if your spray isn’t doing what it should. My levels were tested 3 months after starting treatment. When levels dropped again and they doubled my dose, I was again retested after 3 months so I’m guessing it takes at least that long to work.

Advice is no more than 100mg per day.

Find out about vitamin D, including what it does, how much you need, and how to ensure you get enough.

Have you also had B12 and ferritin checked and do you know what the levels were compared to the labs reference ranges?
You can be symptomatic and feel awful at the low end of the normal range and could feel better if you boosted levels up towards the top end of normal.
Maybe ask the surgery for a printout if you can’t see this info on the app.

There's some very iffy companies out there not supplying the correct dose of vitamins, Holland and Barrett were amongst those tested and found with far less mg than should be, I mostly use Mobu for my supplements although I take vit d&k together in the same tablet.
The nhs doesn't test for all vitamin deficiencies, I would Google "Vitamin deficiency" then some of your symptoms to see if anything else fits.

Sorry, just noticed a PP put a link to Holland and Barrett, my comment about them wasn't directed at you.

The product I linked isn’t one of theirs, and is sold in lots of places, so I didn’t think it was aimed at me 😊

You need magnesium with vitamin D...

OceanicBoundlessness · 10/10/2023 21:02

Oh and phosphorus, bone broth with plenty of seasalt added.

I was feeling tired and borderline depressed and a bit foggy. Something I read made me wonder about Thiamine - the usual story is that you get enough in food unless you're an alcoholic or at least a heavy drinker, which I'm not. However, something I read said drinking a lot of tea can leach it out of your system too, and I'm guilty as charged on that one - also I'd had a very upset gut early in the summer, possibly from Covid.

So I started taking Lidl basic B vitamins six weeks ago and feel transformed. I suspect I may have had slight B vitamin deficiency for some time - maybe since the first Covid back in early 2020.

I do think that generally it seems to be a good idea to supplement with Vit D, magnesium, and Vit B’s possible also iron unless good reason why not to.
