What’s the best month for an outdoor wedding in the UK?

Feel like April & May can be lovely and sunny but cold in the evening

June, July, august warmer during the evening but have been really wet last few years

September beautiful and sunny and can retain some of that warmth

What do you think the best month is to get married? We are looking at outdoor venues likely with tipis so will have wet weather plan but they’re obviously not as warm as actually being indoors

September.

My friends Dad was a farmer and told her to get married in September for the best chance. She had a beautiful day of warm sunny weather in mid September. August is often rainy - her sister ignored and chose August and had a rainy wedding.

There’s obviously no guarantee though. I’d hate to get my hopes up and plan an outdoor wedding and then be obsessed with the forecast for weeks before. Hence we got married in October to take the eatery out of the equation (and it was actually warm and lovely but that wasn’t the focus it was a bonus).

I’d have a very good rainy weather back up plan - I’ve seen many a wedding ruined and cross brides when they haven’t!

I have only ever attended one outdoor wedding and it was July and lovely and I have been to over 30 weddings, I wouldn’t risk it to be honest.

August / September

May or September

ComtesseDeSpair · 10/10/2023 12:20

We were married towards the end of September. The day of the wedding was - thankfully - glorious: warm and sunny, if a little breezy. The following day saw gale force winds and torrential rain. It’s always going to be a gamble.

We’d like to get married in our garden!

If you’ve enough room for a proper marquee in the garden, or don’t mind that the wedding may end up being in your living room, this is at least less risky than choosing an entirely outdoors wedding venue.

Yes that’s all fine

but what’s better - warm but wet or dry but cold??

Late June to early July. Wimbledon happens around that time for a reason.

Personally I’d rather not wrestle with umbrellas and wet clothes going in and out of places and between locations so I’d prefer dry but cool. But your guests may differ.

June or September. Anything but August!

Theblackdogagain · 10/10/2023 12:40

Just to be boring but you can't legally get married outside in the UK, it has to be under cover and registered. However nothing stopping you having a blessing or ceremony outside.

Fifthtimelucky · 10/10/2023 14:25

I think May and June have the lowest rainfall, so I'd go for one of those. My wedding was in the middle of May and it was perfect.

September can also be good and I have been to some lovely September weddings. However the wettest wedding I ever went to was in September.

LER83 · 10/10/2023 14:48

Going by my dcs birthdays which are end of June and mid/late August I would totally rule out August! My dds birthday is end of June and she has had more hot birthdays then cold, but it is a gamble! I would say May or September. I got married in March and it ended up being a lovely warm sunny day! It had snowed the week before! I would also choose being cold over being wet!

LadyOfTheCanyon · 10/10/2023 14:51

I got married in February and it was unseasonably warm. The same day the year before had snowed.

May is often a good shout but I'd choose September. August can be a sweaty month. Dry and cool every time.

Honestly in the UK I wouldn't give myself the stress given that there's so many variables.

Cotswoldmama · 10/10/2023 14:55

I got married at the end of August and it was warm and dry but a bit windy. We had two other weddings before ours in August too and they both had good weather. Not too hot and dry, I feel like usually it's hottest in June/jul

Take the weather out of the equation.

”I never, ever, ever do a thing about the weather because the weather, never, ever does a thing for me.”

Alice in Wonderland iirc?

PinkRoses1245 · 10/10/2023 16:20

Honestly no months. I can’t fathom how anyone can gamble with it in the UK.

Fire9636 · 10/10/2023 16:23

This is not true. Registered venue - yes under cover -no
I got married outside on a field the venue was registered

CheersToMe · 10/10/2023 16:27

June or September. Depends if you want the evening to stay light until late, or want a dark evening.
