Lyme Regis in rain?!

I’ve booked a lovely few days away in Lyme Regis later this week but the forecast is pretty solid rain…

Can anyone recommend any rainy day activities for two adults please?! We have a car so can go a little bit further afield. Maybe a spa!

Thank you

Both times I’ve been to Lyme it was raining! I’d wear all your rain gear and just crack on with everything you planned to do anyway. The dinosaur museum is fine for little kids, a bit eccentric.

If you like wine, this could be a pleasant diversion: https://furleighestate.co.uk/our-tours/

We enjoyed sitting under the covered terrace at restaurant called The Lyme Bay, as you were outside, had a sea view but protected from rain.

I diverge, but this might be useful: If you’re approaching from Bridport, be hyper aware of your speed at Chideock (or bloody Chideock as it’s now known to me) because of ferocious speed cameras. I’d crawl at 20 to be on the safe side. I drove through there in driving rain at just over 30 but didn’t see the camera and ended up coming back to Dorset from Manchester to do a speed awareness course. Dorset is one of 2 areas in the country that doesn’t allow you to transfer the course nearer home.

There are several museums in Dorchester (Dorset Museum, Dinosaur Museum, Tutankhamen Museum, Teddy Bear Museum & Terracotta Army).
Charmouth is fab, you can book to go on an organised fossil hunt with the Heritage Trust & they take you to the best sites, but there are so many fossils you can just find them walking around.

If you go to charmouth for fossil hinting check the tide times, there's very little beach at high tide! Also be aware of cliff safety too, there have been several cliff falls along that part of the jurassic coast recently.

I had a wet holiday in Lyme Regis a few years ago. We went to Forde Abbey near Chard one day.

Pretty sure River Cottage in Axminster has closed down. Whilst the food was ok, it was bloody expensive and full of entitled competitive parents.

Seaton Tramway is nice. We normally park at Colyton where it's free then get the tram to Seaton, have a wander then go back. There is a nice little cafe at Colyton Station. There is a new one called Amy's just up from Colyford Station (past the White Hart by the old TE Lawrence petrol pumps) which is very nice. Seaton Wetlands has opened a new station on the tramway if you have any birdwatchers.

It tends not to rain the whole day in this part of the world, so hopefully you will get some decent spells in between.

River Cottage restaurant has moved to its main base on the Trinity Hill road.

I think Furleigh Estate have finished winery tours for the season? You can still go for a tasting, and their wine is definitely the best of the Dorset vineyards . If you like cider then Forset Nectar in Salway Ash is welcoming - go for the Damson or Elderflower or honey.

This thread is making me miss all the lovely food in Dorset

Beach, walk, pub. Wear a coat and a hat.
