Sorry if this is in the wrong place… but this isn’t usually possible is it?

It depends when you ovulate.

ETA: yes, it's possible.

If your period is always 28-30 days though wouldn’t you always ovulate at the same time each month?

@99Please no even with my regular cycle, I ovulate early, normal and late (a few days either way). Depends on what you think is your normal, 18 days could be within the window of ovulation.

It’s entirely possible. Ovulation date can vary.
I usually ovulate 12 days before the end of my cycle.

I always ovulated around CD18-19 and have got two children (I also had one miscarriage). I found vitex really useful in extending my LP to maintain the pregnancy before progesterone dropped.

😳 so ovulation doesn’t always happen 2 weeks before a period on a 28 day cycle? …why was I taught that?

You can’t rely on dates. DD’s cycle was like clockwork, always had been, but she had a ‘surprise’ 3rd baby after relying on the ‘safe’ period. It never is safe!

Also, I’ve read that ovulation can be triggered outside the expected time by orgasm - which from Nature’s POV makes sense, when you think about it.

Of course you can.

EvelynKatie · 09/10/2023 15:21

I hope so as I ovulate CD17 on a 28 day cycle and I'm TTC!

The time after your period ends and before ovulation is called the follicular phase. The period after ovulation is called the luteal phase.

A "normal" luteal phase can last anywhere between 10 to 16 days.

Therefore, you can ovulate on day 18 and have a 12-day luteal phase within a 30-day cycle. Perfectly, 100% normal.

If you have intercourse a day or two before ovulation, you have maximised your chances of getting pregnant.

So if your period is bang on every 28 days, either the follicular or luteal phase can differ each month? I always thought if you were that regular then ovulation would always be the same each month?

I am aware how ridiculous I sound btw, I promise I’m not always this daft!

Yes you can
Even with a regular cycle it can easily change month to month

uncomfortablydumb53 · 09/10/2023 16:21

I mean the phases can change not the duration

The luteal phase tends to be pretty consistent. Some things can delay ovulation (eg stress), thus extending the follicular phase, but your luteal phase generally remains the same.

The conception boards on here are a wealth of knowledge, once you get to grips with the abbreviations!
