Anyone else on here received an invite in the post as in the title? They are currently sending them to randomly selected addresses- apparently.

I rang their contact number as the website doesn't have a section for frequently asked questions although it says it does.

Apparently some clinics are being held in local Boots and not on NHS premises as you would expect as it says its in partnership with the NHS.

According to the person I spoke to they will take a blood sample, do a cholesterol test, height and weight.
Some of the tests, the same ones that the gp can arrange, you will get the results for straight away. The blood sample, which would give a risk indication of you getting the conditions listed will take up to TWO YEARS before you get the results as they have so many people to test. If I hadn't have asked this question directly then I wouldn't have known.
The letter states in bold An opportunity to take part in research and learn new information about your blood pressure, cholesterol and future risk of disease.
Its says "diseases like dementia, cancer, diabetes, heart disease and stroke" Again, you can have a check via your gp for pre-diabetes, diabetes anyway.

Yes its for research for future generations which is good but I think that its misleading as it infers that you'll get information personal to you now.
In fact you're not getting anything other than you are able to have via your gp.

I won't be taking part now. If they had worded it differently and been more upfront then I would've considered it. To not state anywhere that the results could take this long is deceiving.

Interested to hear from others who have received a random invite what their opinion is on this. Do you think the letter is misleading?

I was sent mine by email and through the registration process it clearly stated that during the initial phase you wouldn't get any results on your blood due to the scale but in the future you would be contacted about this and the process explained in more detail. Sounds like it was quite different to the letter?

Teaslurpershutup · 09/10/2023 19:40

Yes it does. Looks like not many people on here have received an invite then. Thanks for responding. Just out of interest are you likely to take part?

I am taking part, yes. Was quite interested in it.

I'm taking part. It was clear to me, and I was pleased to get my results. However, I would have done it regardless as I think the possible future benefits are worth some inconvenience.

Wishihadanalgorithm · 09/10/2023 20:00

I did it and was told the results of my cholesterol test - a tad high!

DragonflyLady · 09/10/2023 20:02

I received an invite but the nearest place for the tests was too far away so haven’t bothered.

KevinDeBrioche · 09/10/2023 20:26

I registered but like a PP the test place was miles away. I was also really annoyed by the wording of the sex / gender questions, they are different and I have no truck with medical professionals who use them interchangeably

Pixiedust1234 · 09/10/2023 20:57

I've received an invite so need to check where I need to go first. Hopefully I can do it.

I was part of that Galleri research where they wanted to test for multiple cancers via blood tests - I believe it was successful and will be something the NHS will offer in the near future. They took the blood in a mobile testing centre in a supermarket carpark so hope it's that again as it was very accessible.

Pixiedust1234 · 10/10/2023 17:42

I can't find where they are holding it in my city so I won't be doing it. Even if it's a Boots there is one I can get to, the other I can't. It's a bit stupid of them not to list where until after the rigmarole of personal details and making a special account. Even google isn't helpful.

Blahbie · 10/10/2023 17:52

I took part. I'm at risk of a few things such as diabetes so ofc if I can lend myself for research purposes to help people like me in the near future. Why not.

historyrepeatz · 10/10/2023 17:57

I got a text invite from the gp. A lot of data will be held and shared so that's a little worrying but decides to go ahead. Had to wait a few weeks for an available appointment.

Hbh17 · 10/10/2023 18:02

If I got one, it would be straight in the bin (or digital equivalent).

Mybestusername · 10/10/2023 18:24

Yes, I have done this, was given my cholesterol levels, blood pressure and BMI

Letsnotargue · 10/10/2023 18:24

I received an invitation, but anyone can sign up. I understood the timescales, they weren’t off-putting as I’m more interested in helping them set up a bank of information that could be used for research purposes in the future.

I got my results for blood pressure and cholesterol at the time. Anything else I might get would be a bonus.

RenegadeKeeblerElf · 10/10/2023 19:10

I got an invitation and have my screening on Saturday, in what I presume will be a mobile unit as it is in a supermarket car park. I agree with the PP who said it was made clear during the sign up process that you wouldn't get result straight away, if ever. I'm doing it as I think it is important to support research.
