A plague of ladybirds

Has anyone got a plague of ladybirds in their area? There are a few hundred in my garden - on the clothes line, the walls, garden bench. Loads of little spots on these too!

Plague is a pretty negative term. Ladybirds are great. Sadly only seen one today

YorkieTheRabbit · 08/10/2023 16:57

Absolutely loads here this weekend, Yorkshire. I like them, as mentioned up thread, excellent pest control

Honestmummydearest · 08/10/2023 16:57

HUNDREDS IN ESSEX!

They seem to find their way into our house via the window and door frames. I cleared them all, went into the other room for 45mins and came back to even more!

What a miserable post. Will you be happy when everything's dead, and there's only humans left.

How is commenting on something unusual miserable?

I'm in my kitchen with the back door open and they are all over the walls and ceilings. Am I also miserable for remarking on something I can see?

elastamum · 08/10/2023 16:57

Right now we have hundreds all over the front of the house. We get them most years. They all arrive in October looking for somewhere to hibernate. Loads got in yesterday, so I have had to shut our windows.

PragmaticWench · 08/10/2023 16:59

There are at least a hundred in my hallway and they're swarming over the outside of the windows.

userxx · 08/10/2023 17:00

@Honestmummydearest Totally off topic but which white paint have you used ?

My 6'4" ex rugby player husband is shrieking and flapping in the garden when they land on him. 🤦‍♀️

Wuss 😆. I haven't seen any today but there were a lot in the garden yesterday, although not enough to be considered a plague. I'm in the midlands.

@userxx hahaha, wasn’t expecting this question! I actually wish I knew, speaking as the mum of a 2yo who enjoys graffiti-ing the walls. We bought the house already painted

Bummer! It's the most perfect white, no hints of anything else. Thanks anyway 👍. Back to the bugs 🐞

BadBadDecisions · 08/10/2023 17:08

Not this year but last October, yes! I loved it. They are so beautiful.

helly29 · 08/10/2023 17:18

Loads here in Lancashire, remember the same around this time last year!

LabradorLoveSausages · 08/10/2023 17:20

We are in North Essex and have hundreds- inside and out. I just found one in my ear!

For us, this situation can’t have been helps by the fact that DH purchased and released 2l of ladybird lavae earlier in the year.

Lots here in Gloucestershire and we've also got cluster flies which really creep me out.

Juliet55 · 08/10/2023 17:25

I'm in Lancashire, near Preston and am absolutely swamped with them. I've never noticed any here before but these last couple of days they are everywhere. On all my windows and doors and on my washing. They keep flying into me too when I go outside. The neighbours are covered in them too apparently.

DamnAllTheJellyfish · 08/10/2023 17:39

Omg us too, we are in mid Wales. Just removed hundreds from our hallway. Loads outside, I wonderd if my neighbours are having the same issues or if they had just suddenly targeted our house.

slavetothekittens · 08/10/2023 17:55

Not seen a single ladybird this year. No dragonflies either.

GrannyAchingsShepherdsHut · 08/10/2023 17:58

They hibernate in cracks and crevices, DPs get them round their windows this time of year, hundreds all jammed in, they can't open the windows till spring or they all end up in the house!

I also once saw some when building work took a large area of wood down, literally thousands, tens of thousands probably, all different colours all in together. It was amazing.

Lastchancechica · 08/10/2023 18:24

We have loads!!! Hundreds - SW I assumed it was the heat 26c here

Judashascomeintosomemoney · 08/10/2023 18:27

It’s not a plague, it’s officially a Loveliness of Ladybirds. 🐞

countvoncount · 08/10/2023 19:07

Yes! I'm in the north west, and have dozens!!!
Cute little things

I haven't seen any dragonflies here but in Greece in the summer our villa was surrounded by them, they kept coming to visit us in the pool!

Chasingsquirrels · 08/10/2023 20:05

Yea, Cambridgeshire

BrandNewBicep · 08/10/2023 20:07

Yesterday in South Manchester - dozens of them. I had left the bedroom window open and the room was full of them.
