Kew Christmas Lights

Quick survey please. I am undecided about doing this when I go to London for the weekend in a few weeks and I know I have to move fast if I want tickets.
Is it something 3 adults would enjoy or is it a family thing? I saw it all over my Instagram last year and it did look a bit like I would be tripping over family influencers at every turn. Thanks.

I love Kew Lights, I started going with my son when he stopped believing in Father Christmas, he is 19 and still loves it as well.

It is very busy and yes there are lots of families but there are also lots of adult groups.
just choose your day and time carefully - later on in the evening there will be fewer tiny children

I've done this before a few years back and tbh I prefer Kew Gardens in the daytime. I love the plants and you can't see the outdoor ones properly at night (although you get to go in some of the greenhouses, at least we did when I went to the lights thing a few years back, it was part of the route). Also Kew is good for rambling about freely whereas if you go for the lights event you have to follow a route, and it's more crowded because people aren't spread out rambling.

I do really love Kew Gardens.

@Mummy08m

but the point of the lights event is the lights surely, not to go rambling and look at plants.

I was a bit underwhelmed - it’s very busy, the route isn’t very long and the lights are just ok. Considering the cost of the tickets I was expecting more. I wouldn’t bother again

Todayiscool · 08/10/2023 09:14

We've been for the past few years.

It's sometimes a little busy, but DH, DD and I have specialist skills in dropping out of crowds

There are plenty of adult groups. There are some parts that are magical. Some parts that are mundane, but in general its a nice festive time.

Their snacks and drinks are mediocre and overpriced (the latter is to be expected, but the former could be addressed).

It’s ok. The lights are pretty and there is mulled wine etc to buy and drink as you go round. But Kew is quite a trek out of central London, so I’m not sure I’d bother if I was just visiting for the weekend.

Yep. So imo it's a waste of the main attractions of Kew Gardens- might as well be in any park

JaneKatSuttonGoals · 08/10/2023 09:18

We have been going for a number of years now but have chosen not to go this year as it's become crazy busy and noisy.

If you've never done anything like it before it is great & as a group of adults get the later slots to reduce kids numbers & I think it's still fab!

duchiebun · 08/10/2023 09:19

We first went 9/10 yrs ago & loved it, obviously it was quite a new thing. Haven't been for the last few years as I find it too busy.

SunnieShine · 08/10/2023 09:19

You better get a move on if you want to go. We booked months ago and a lot of tickets had gone then. It's very popular.
