Another vote for Jen Brister. Phil Wang and Urzila Carlson are also great IMO.

Tommy Tiernan is one of the best comedians, he is such a good story teller and he is a bit mental and the way he talks about growing up in Ireland is just so true and we can all relate to the mental stories he tells. He just has this presence on the stage that you are fully zoned in and he is in my opinion one of the best comedians ever. He totally gets into the character of the person he is talking about and actually has me in stitches.
Jo Brand also loved the way she performed.

I was wondering if you were trying to make a point with your OP.

Fwiw I think it's rapidly improving. Most of us only know the comedians we see on TV - blame the bookers, not the audience.

I thought the same, but honestly couldn’t think of many female comedians – there just aren’t as many I’m familiar with
