It seemed such a good idea at the time

I have a boy and a girl born at opposite times of the year, so thought I could sell some things at the NCT nearly new sale. Signed up as a seller and it’s just awful. Washing everything, sorting it and organising it took weeks, the dining room table has vanished and I need more labels and DH has gone into a meeting (printer is there) and by the time he’s out DD will have woken up. I think I’m just going to have to pull out but such a waste and still drowning in stuff. I wish I’d just left it in bags hiding in the cupboard Sad

I know about the existence of charity shops, and bins and whatever else. At the moment, I’m feeling very angry with myself and going to the charity shop isn’t going to change that.

You clearly just wanted to make, as loads of people have offered options and you have shot everything down.

INeedNewShoes · 06/10/2023 14:22

Just take the stuff that you do manage to sort in time. Having got this far it would be soul destroying not to make use of the work you've already done.

Can your DH help you this evening?

Getting rid of old baby stuff is a massive pain whatever you do.
Maybe keep it just in case you get unexpectedly pregnant with twins?

MsAnnFrope · 06/10/2023 14:26

I still have DDs pram, baby bath and some clothes in my attic. Used to be on the actual NCT local committee and arrange the sale. Still didn’t get rid of all the fucking stuff. DD is 10…
also looking at 2 bags of random Christmas stuff wondering if it’s worth putting them in the attic for 2 months??

I sorted out a linen chest and found beautifully laundered and labelled a White Company Flat cot sheet - which never sold at the NCT sale, the rest either sold or was ditched in slight disgust that now one wanted my lovely things, 15years ago. I've now ragged it, using little pieces as dusters makes me smile now the DD is off at Uni.

Do it, go through the pain once that is NCT/car boot/vinted and then come to the conclusion that your time and sanity is worth more.
Going minimalist is the best thing you can do as far as your kids stuff is concerned and will save more money & your sanity in the long run.
I went for buy new, buy big, but few, wear thoroughly out. So one raincoat, one fleece, one fancy dress. Forget Special Xmas jumpers - pin a badge on their normal one.

@Summermeadowflowers I completely get you, and understand the need to vent.
There there

It’s not just you, I’m always starting things that turn out to be a bigger job than I expected. Hth

I have a boot of stuff I have been meaning to take to the charity shop... went round our local ones yesterday and they didn't want donations... so kind of know how you feel op, looks like it loves in my car now, though it has at least made it out the house!

WhatFlavourIsIt · 06/10/2023 15:17

Well if you're not looking for friendly advice then get off the internet, stop whining & get it done. Either that or shove it all in bin bags & donate it to somewhere a bit less picky

Marmalade making. Explosion up the walls.

sourdough. Put on about 3 stone.

redecorating…

oh, and the time I tried to rearrange the furniture and found myself trapped behind an arrangement of furniture and carpet until a friend came over to rescue me!

I get it. Take a breath and let it go.
