Help me sleep!

I’ve had 6 hours sleep all week! (Since Monday). I’m usually tired and worry about having chronic fatigue but this week I haven’t been able to sleep! I’m wide awake! Not feeling tired at all though as you can imagine my eyes are feeling pretty sore. What could be causing it? And what can I do to get some sleep? Any ideas would be great tia

Sorry to hear OP. Magnesium helped me get my sleep back on track when I was suffering with the same. Also another thing that made a difference was to have a consistent bedtime routine, e.g. light a scented tealight candle every night. It helped my mind associate the candle with sleeping and would help me wind down

Do you use your phone in bed? I'd try not to have any screen time 30-60 minutes (atleast until you get your sleep back)

Also a cooler room temperature perhaps?

Good luck :)

@VimtoLemonade thanks for your help. I’ve just ordered some magnesium tablets to try and some nytol! I do use my phone in bed but I’m now going to read a book instead. I already sleep with my windows open so my room is cool enough. I’m going to start a bedtime routine and try and get my head into sleep mode. It’s just odd cause usually I can sleep for England! I even have to have naps in the day! Very strange x

Switch your phone off at least an hour before bed.
It really works!!

You can self refer to the NHS sleep program/App. It's a 6 week online course. It gets good reviews. Google it.

I second high strength magnesium.
If really desperate then a good dose of liquid piriton used to help me. I also (after surgery) discovered co codamol also has a sedative effect.

Re the cause, any other symptoms? Thyroid issues can cause sleeplessness.

Get back up.
Do something until you feel (more tired)
Then hot bath (raised temp helps with sleep)
Magnesium
Wrap yourself up tightly in a blanket
Turn on a sleep story or soundscape
Eye mask
Lie very still
Slow breathing

Hopefully it might help!

I have been watching the sleep podcasts on you tube from ‘the diary of a CEO’. He has had a few sleep experts on there. I have tried some of what they said and it has worked.

Thanks @FlawedHumanBeing @LakeTiticaca @Oioicaptain @Sleeplessinseattle234 @Theoldwoman ive got the magnesium and some nytol and I have been reading instead of playing on my phone. I did sleep last night but it still took a while to drop off. I’m going to look into audio books as I think that might be better than reading. Also I’ll check out the sleep course with the nhs. Thanks everyone and sweet dreams x
