Can we have a praising doctors and nurses thread?

Maybe I’m just reading the wrong threads but there seem to be so many threads lately knocking the NHS.

Today I took 7yo DS to the dental hospital for some X-rays and while there he managed to shut his thumb in a door (don’t ask). We had two nurses with us immediately, distracting him with stickers and changing the DVD, they found Calpol, checked him over, fussed over him until he calmed down, and gave me advice of what to look for later in case it needed checking out. It completely wasn’t part of their normal job but they couldn’t have been lovelier or kinder and helped make him laugh again and enjoy his exiting “day trip” out.

Has anyone else had some above and beyond care recently?

I’ve had superb treatment from GP (non emergency appointment next day), referral to consultant and seen within two weeks. Had to have some procedures and treated so well from arriving at hospital to going into surgery to recovery. Professional, caring, efficient.

I have had the most amazing treatment from my CPN and psychiatrist - they have been so sensitive and aware of my needs and how hard I find it to call them and arranged appointments pro actively. I honestly think they’ve saved my life and I am incredibly grateful.

I think, on the whole, doctors and nurses I've come across have done a great job - I just wish they were properly funded and supported! Unfortunately, when they're not, people are going to experience sub-standard care.

My ds18 is severely disabled and I would take a bullet for our nursing team. The system is failing around them but they are doing such an amazing job within the constraints. Ds has moved across to adult services and on his last admission every single nurse was either Indian or Filapina, who were equally as fab (we are not in a diverse area so this is not 'normal' for us) and it made me realize how many nurses must be leaving the profession and there must be a shortage therefore they have to recruit from overseas? It's terribly sad, they are worth their weight in gold.

Oh, and as for praising ... I was reminded today of the absolutely lovely midwife who looked after my DD when she was a tiny, sick baby. She was a total star.

DD ended up in A&E on Monday after a netball accident and a ?fractured finger. Fantastic treatment: efficient, professional and kind.

She was seen in the fracture clinic today by the nicest orthopod who was friendly, reassuring and thorough.

Really impressed by everyone. I work in the NHS and I know how tough it is at the moment.

Yup. High praise from me here I have just had an inflamed gall bladder that was stuck to my liver removed. From start to finish everyone, apart from a couple of HCA's who moaned a lot (probably justified) and were very loud and inappropriate in front of patients, was wonderful. I felt very cared for.

Some HCP are good, but many are not!

Shf · 05/10/2023 22:24

Well yes, but I was asking for stories of people who’d had good experiences and wanted to thank people!

Just wanted to shout out all the allied health professions (AHP's) who work tirelessly and get very little recognition. I am a AHP and pretty much have the same job roles as my nursing colleagues yet hardly get noticed!
