Will a&e drain quinsy if the child is able to eat?

GP gave antibiotics for suspected tonsil abscess, said if it doesn't get better in 24 hours go A&E. At that point my daughter couldn't eat much and had terrible pain and earache.

A day later she is eating better and has a bit less pain, but the infected pus is now clearly visible under the swelling as there's a large yellow/white area in the middle of the bulge. The bulge does seem a bit smaller though. The dangly bit at the back of her throat was pushed over to one side yesterday but it's back in the centre now.

It just seems so obviously full of pus like I can see the white goo under the surface. I've read it's better to get them drained but will a&e do it as she seems so much better in herself?

Worried it will burst and she'll aspirate it in her sleep.

Abscesses seldom get better on their own and yusually need asiration and antibiotics together.
I'm old and we would have done this at a "hot" ENT clinic after GP referral
I guess these days A and E is default

Thanks @Imperfect10 , I was very confused as to why the GP said antibiotic tablets at home would be enough as he did think it was 'verging' on an abscess when he saw it yesterday.

An abscess can't be drained until it is there. I guess the GP was suspicious but couldn't refer....yet

I had this done when i was 20. First I had antibiotics, they didn't work and a few days later the GP sent me to A and E. I was admitted and it was done a couple of hours later. Not nice obviously but fast and instant relief.

This was 25 years ago though. The GP actually visited me at home the second time - can't imagine that happening now. If you're concerned I would take her to A and E.

My GP sent me straight to A&E as I couldn’t swallow food and my breathing was restricted. I also had a temp. Mine was drained and I felt so much better. Take her back.
