Glasses 👓 for seeing not drinking from

Where do people buy their glasses from?

I need new ones and nothing took my fancy from Boots (they all seemed to have silly gold accent bits on and didn't fit anyway as I have a small head) and they seemed expensive, given I didn't really like any of them.

I don't have a complex prescription and just want some fairly ordinary ones, nothing too 'out there' style wise, but not old fashioned looking either.

I'm 50, pale skin, dark hair if it matters and I think I want rectangular plastic frame ones but they didn't have these.

I can't get them online as they refused to tell me my pupil distance unless I bought glasses from them.

But I need to get some from somewhere and am just bored with the whole experience now.

Should've gone to Specsavers

You can measure your own pupil distance with a ruler and a mirror. Google it. Then if it's a simple prescription, I would buy online.

You could try an independent opticians. Often they will carry ranges which aren’t stocked by multiple high street chain opticians.

re: pupil distance. It’s the responsibility of those supplying the glasses to measure.

Order them online they all tell you how to
Measure properly.

Glasses direct
Firmoo

Are websites I've used and never had any issues

I have problems with the main opticians, in that I also have a small head. All their glasses look huge on me. I resorted to the children’s section last time at Boots. Vision Express own brand glasses seem rather flimsy to me. Independent opticians are better, but a lot more expensive.

I've just bought some new ones from ASDA and their petite range is pretty decent. Some of them were actually too small!

salamithumbs · 05/10/2023 18:26

That's so petty they wouldn't tell you! I'd say just measure your own pupil distance...Most optometrists measure from the iris to iris rather than pupil to pupil, there are videos on youtube to show you how

Cubitts are really good.

Whilst on holiday a few years ago, I bought some fabulous frames from an opticians in Italy and then got the prescription filled by a local independent opticians.

You could try looking online at frames and see if anything takes your fancy?

Findyourneutralspace · 05/10/2023 18:34

I got mine from Specsavers. I’m the same colouring as you with a basic prescription and got two pairs, one black one purple for £70 that I’m happy with.

Specsavers always have a much greater and more varied range than Boots. Also more glasses aimed at teens, so they may fit you better.

CoffeeBeansGalore · 05/10/2023 18:53

Small head here. Specsavers have some petite frames. The ones I got were called Juanita. They don't overwhelm my face.
