Merlin pass

Considering getting merlin passes for my 2 children as a gift for xmas.

Just wondering if it was worth it, as my thoughts are that I would still need to buy myself a ticket. Whereas if i only got 1 child a pass, i could then use the 2 for 1 for me and my other child. I don't know if this makes it cheaper or not and I can't seem to get my head around it lol

I've read you get up to 50% discount for family and friends but does that mean it could be just 5% discount or is it closer to 50?

We would get the more expensive ones and pay monthly for ours as they can be used on weekends and holidays. My children are 15 and 9. We love in London so lots to do, plus don't mind travelling further for the theme parks etc.

My only problem is me having to pay for my ticket still so still makes it rather expensive for a day out and if I want to take advantage of the cards, that'll be a few times a week.

Any advice?

I'd it possible to get them for all of you? We absolutely loved ours and when DD was 15 she and I had loads of fun time together at Alton towers. It was such a good thing for us. I think quality time can be trickier in the mid teen years.

It's possible, but would be a stretch. But i guess is the best option! Yes I'm thinking about days out with my teenager more than anything as I feel we could have so much fun doing this! He is 15 in December but would really enjoy the pass.

Another question I have is, are there restricted days for the pass holders? I have read reviews which state that even though there are tickets available for full price payers, if you are booking with the pass these days are not available and they often can't find for any days they would like it for.

It's really expensive but I think worth it and get them for Xmas.

Other times of the year when you've got no spare money it's great to be able to go out for a fun day.

We do Legoland/chessington/Thorpe park and sealife quite a lot and have enjoyed all the London attractions. It encouraged us to go to Warwick castle which we wouldn't otherwise.

I'm booking bear grylls for my sons 10th birthday- snorkling with sharks! Not free but merlin discount.

Kids are almost 10 and 12 and have loved it. They are happy just going with me whereas most other things we do these days they would like a friend to come along.

Apologies for bumping a zombie thread!

I'm thinking of getting Merlin Gold passes for DC(10) and me but wondering if all the attractions are free to enter or if there are any hidden extra charges. We live in Wales so the attractions would all be a fair drive!
