30th Wedding Anniversary holiday recommendations

I want to do something special for my 30th wedding anniversary next month.
Sadly, my husband (76 years old) has a rare type of blood cancer, which makes him very fatigued so it has to be pretty laid back. His immunity is pretty low as well which is a concern
He hasn't been out of the country for years but It looks like I can get travel insurance for him (over £1200 - but needs must!!) and I know he would jump at the chance as all our holidays have been UK based
He has mobility/ pain issues and can't sit for longer than 3 hours, so if we flew it would need to be Europe

I have been racking my brains trying to think of something that is very special and no longer than around 7 days in duration.

Flying out to somewhere like Portugal / Spain is doable, but that would just be a beachy holiday and November temperatures may be too cold
The Canaries are too far away for the transit times

There is one 7 day cruise available from Southampton but the boat that holds over 6000 passengers - though out of the holiday season, it may be lots emptier. I am aware that cruise ships can be a petri dish of infection.
This so far is the best bet as it's no-fly and the port isn't that far away. (I do get horrendously seasick though so I think river cruises may be out)

I have looked at things like the Orient Express, but at over £6000 each it is prohibitively expensive.

I have a budget of £4000 for the week

Mumsnet .......

Can anyone help suggest anything, give me some different ideas

Thanks

Rhine river cruise? Smaller boats and perhaps a more 'careful' demographic re. immunity?

I think the cruise sounds lovely. They have really good entertainment like west end shows on in some of the evening. Also you have your own stateroom and many have private balcony's so you could both could sit out on the balcony with a glass of wine/beer and they give you blankets to keep you warm if a bit chilly. If you went end of October around the med it would still be warm in Valetta, Medina, Greek islands etc. You can go on a booked excursion to see things or just potter around on your own if you disembark at ports. Look carefully at excursions as some are a lot of walking. You can eat in main restaurants, speciality restaurants or order room service. There are also quieter piano/jazz bars with singers and far fewer people go to those. If you go in school term time there won't be children. You can take some hand wash with you in your handbag. They have loads of it on cruises anyway. Most cruises have a swimming pool and fitness centre. I just like walking around the deck. There are places you can sit as you walk around.

The Algarve should've pleasant temperature wise at that time of year, transfer time is 2.5 hours. Spain is another idea, Sicily is another option but it is not as disability friendly. In Portugal & Spain you will find plenty of options for suitable hotels as it's popular with older visitors, book private transfers to shorten the travel time.

If a cruise does appeal look at small vessels eg Fred Olsen, saga, even p&o and Cunard who are in the 2000's not 6l!

I would book a cruise out of Southampton. P&O Iona is a very big ship but absolutely amazing and loads of space so it genuinely doesn't feel crowded (apart from breakfast time at the buffet) but you can avoid that by eating in one of the many other restaurants.

Cruise out of a UK port. Maybe a smaller ship - Fred Olsen and Ambassador out of Tilbury.
Everything is accessible on a cruise and you can choose a couple of excursions that suit you.
Or a river cruise sounds fabulous.

Saga do river cruises and pick you up from home. Depending on the level of cabin, I think you’d get it for what you want to spend.

I really fancied one for a big anniversary next year, but we can’t afford it, sad to say.
