A Spanish calculator?

So if a calculator is in Spanish what difference does this make? It’s all just numbers isn’t it. DS needs a new one and the normal one has been upgraded with not good reviews. But there is the preferred one in Spanish. Reviewers are moaning about it. Am I missing something here, it’s just numbers??

Sorry, no help at all, but niche threads like this are why I love MN!

As far as I'm aware, the only difference is the Menu and instructions are in Spanish. So if using menu you would need to know Spanish. But for simple calculations, no difference. I think

What kind of calculator is it?

Four Function

Scientific

Graphic Display

I have a student with a graphic display calculator in Chinese. He struggles to use it.

If it's a scientific calculator, which I assume it is, the function names (e.g. Sin, cos, tan, ln, etc) will be in Spanish. Not good.

Whatsinthefridge · 02/10/2023 20:51

Ahhh thank you. It was a scientific Casio fx83gtx

Some countries use a comma as we'd use a decimal point as well 🤷‍♀️

Sounds like a joke along the lines of the Italian Astronaut 'specimen'.

I'll get me coat.

Instead of an OLED display, it has an Olé display?

Grin

I googled this because I wanted to know and went down a bit of a calculator wormhole.

And despite me owning two calculators that I've had since school, but do still use regularly, I now want one of these:

Women in science calculator cases. How cool is that? Currently trying to decide between Marie Curie and Ada Lovelace.

But to answer the OPs question, I don't know. Only difference I can see is that it says sen instead of sin but tan and cos are the same.

Your school might provide them at a discount.
All the symbols will be the same but some other buttons may have different names such as the function key, the deg rad gra key etc.

CatherinedeBourgh · 03/10/2023 07:21

Yes, in Spanish one thousand pounds and ten pence will be written 1.000,10 instead of 1,000.10. I'm bilingual and get terminally confused. If the calculator works like that it would be useless to an English student. Maybe it can be set either way?

noblegiraffe · 03/10/2023 07:23

The English ones can be set to a comma or decimal point but it's buried in a menu that I wouldn't want to have to find in Spanish.

Yourebeingtooloud · 03/10/2023 07:32

I love the idea there’s going to be a whole bunch of kids bilingual but only in obscure maths terminology
