Coverless Duvet

FlyingUnicornWings · 02/10/2023 12:56

Anyone got one? Are they worth it? Fit in the machine etc? Any recommendations?

So over the faff of fighting with the duvet cover once a week!

I have Fine Bedding Company coverless duvets which I rotate and I love them. The materials are lovely, they wash well and dry quicker than duvet covers. I love the faff free bed change and wouldn't go back to covers again. I have a 9kg machine and no problem with washing.

Psychonabike · 02/10/2023 14:27

BTW the night lark/M&S ones dry so much quicker that the Night Owl cotton waffle ones.

loislovesstewie · 02/10/2023 15:22

Instead of faffing with a duvet cover, I use a top sheet. I rarely change the duvet cover as it isn't next to my skin and I find it easier to just the change the sheet.

Mine are Fine Bedding Company ones, and I love them. I have a washer/dryer which has a smaller drum than a dedicated dryer, so tend to hang them on the line when possible, and over the bannister after a double spin when it's raining. they dry very quickly - an hour or so over the line on a sunny day, and if I wash one in the morning it is dry by bedtime when it's been over the banister, so long as it is properly spin dried first.

caramond · 02/10/2023 15:29

I have one as my summer duvet. It's a double and a summer tog so not very bulky. Easily fits into my 8kg capacity washing machine. During the warmer months I can wash it late morning and it's completely dry by the evening. I don't own a tumble drier and dry either on the indoor airer or an airer on the patio in good weather. I've had it for 3 summers now and it's in perfect condition still, just put it in winter storage last week.

I imagine the winter ones would take longer to try as they are thicker (and the weather gets colder and damp).

mrsbyers · 02/10/2023 15:31

I don’t tumble my nightowl one just hang it over the open staircase I’m the morning and it’s dry and ready for bed in the evening - got them on all our beds now and wouldn’t go back

ButterflyBitch · 02/10/2023 15:34

I love ours. Got them on all the beds. I think a 10 tog double or bigger may be difficult to squeeze in a standard machine. I’ve got a larger capacity so it’s fine and most of them are thinner anyway. Love not having the fight. Either tumble for an hour or hang to dry and never had it still be wet by bedtime.

This what they do in Australia. My Australian friend was amazed that we did not use a sheet under the duvet cover.

Isn’t the faff of washing and drying something so big (never mind the cost/inconvenience) worse than the pretty simple task of putting a duvet cover on?

That's my thoughts on it too!!

loobylou10 · 02/10/2023 15:40

They are fabulous. We have them everywhere - only take a few hours to dry. 9kg washer.

'I’ve got 2 of the night owl ones and would never go back. Wash in the morning, hang over the banister and dry for bed time. King size fit in my normal size washing machine'.

ThreeRingCircus · 02/10/2023 16:07

I have one of the herringbone Night Owl ones (now called Night Lark) kingsize and 4 tog and I can wash the duvet, pillowcases and sheet easily in my washing machine. It tumble dries in about an hour or hang over the bannister as others have said.

I also have the double green one with white spots from Asda as a spare, for going away in our caravan etc and that's good too.... slightly heavier but the material doesn't feel quite as nice as the Night Lark ones.

DDs both have single ones from Asda, super easy to strip and change their beds.

The only one I find a faff is the Night Lark cotton waffle winter duvet. I have a 9kg washing machine and struggle to wash this as it's kingsize and also doesn't dry as quickly as the other ones. I'm tempted to stick to my summer weight one and just add a warm throw/blanket over the top of it during winter.

In general though I love them and changing the beds is SO much easier. I also like the fact you don't get the duvet moving around inside the cover and it feels fresher. I'm a proper convert to them.

ColdEvenings · 02/10/2023 19:11

GAME CHANGER for me!!

I tell everyone about them!

Every week. Pull it off the bed. In the machine. Hang it up outside or in my study, and dry and smelling lovely by the evening.

Chuck it straight back on the bed!

Love it, love it, love it!

And it's the whole duvet that's clean, not just the cover. When I go to hotels now, I feel a bit bleugh, knowing that that duvet isn't clean!!

All those sweat stains on duvets. 🤮

I mean how often to people wash their whole duvets normally? It’s one of those things where you can’t understand why you haven’t used them before.

Best. Thing. Ever!!

StopStartStop · 02/10/2023 19:12

Needed one for elderly dad as he was soaking bedding. Had to get a duvet which fits in the machine. And it does.

Lifeetc · 02/10/2023 19:17

I've got single sized ones from Asda £20
They only have two colour choices, they are super cosy, wash well and dry quickly. I use mine on a day bed and love them!

mondaytosunday · 02/10/2023 19:48

Yes. Hate changing the duvet cover so got one. Just washed it this past weekend. I have a dryer and so no issue, but I imagine it would take just longer to dry out on the line.
I'm very happy with it. I got if off Amazon.

IMustDoMoreExercise · 02/10/2023 19:55

@ThreeRingCircus

Why don't you put the one you can't wash on top of the other one. You could tie them together in the corners with safety pins.

Btw I use a duvet cover but I pin the the corners of the duvet to the duvet cover using safety pins so the duvet doesn't move. There is also something in Amazon for doing this you can buy.

lionsleepstonight · 02/10/2023 20:47

Im another night owl convert.

Avoid the cotton waffle as they take longer to dry, but the other types are amazing. We only have those now.

Highly recommend.

Would a king size fit in a 7kg washing machine please?

ColdEvenings · 03/10/2023 14:22

@superstar63

I've just checked my washing machine it's 12kg, and for my super king size it's a bit of a squeeze. Although I do manage to squeeze the bedsheet and pillow cases in too.

I put 2 washing detergent pods things in too.

I think the soft ones would but probably not the cotton waffle ones (or at least not the higher tog waffle one).

superstar63 · 03/10/2023 20:26

Thank you both!
