I'm going to Vegas soon. It's a long flight and I wanted to take a cross stitch with me to keep me occupied on the flight.

Does anyone know if I can take a small needle and snips/ small scissors with me on the plane?
Thanks x

You could take the necklace I linked above although I've only used it for sewing thread not embroidery thread but I specifically got it for a flight a few years ago

Sewing needles I had no issues with

Thank you! What a brilliant idea!!

I take round ended scissors, I think the blade length has to be less than 6cm, a needle and crochet hooks. They tend to pull my bag and check the size of the scissors but have never been refused

You need to be aware of what they will allow at the other end for travelling home. What a UK airport allows a US one may not.

bizarrely I flew from vegas last month and the person in front of me was pulled over with a knife
9cm blade was the limit they said

It really is potluck on who's doing the screening on the day, I think. I once had a plastic fork taken off me (I had no idea it was in my handbag - one of my DC plonked it in there after we'd had a snack at Pret earlier). We were then served dinner on the aircraft with a 'proper' metal cutlery set.

They obviously thought I wouldn't be a threat to anyone as long as I was kept well-fed (they know me better than I give them credit for).

I always travel with a crochet hook and small scissors on long-haul flights, I've never had them taken off me, even when I've been selected for a random bag search.

I'm off tomorrow and risking a crochet hook in my plane bag, only that and a ball of yarn. Keep your fingers crossed for me 🤞

You definitely can take small scissors. Having travelled 'carry on only' for many years. My suggestion is to keep the (short bladed) scissors and needles separate and put them on the tray in a separate, small, see through bag.

There have been times I have been stopped when they were in my case as they need to be able to see they meet specifications. Carrying them separately has never been an issue
