Where can I sell/donate Lego?

Woollymonster · 02/10/2023 00:21

I have a number of (valuable in theory) lego sets to let go that form part of my decluttering plan.
We have the boxes and instructions to each, but the problem is that I cannot be sure that they are complete.
Any suggestions?

Ebay

TheOhGodOfHangovers · 02/10/2023 00:27

Sell on eBay or bricklink - photograph and mention they may not be complete.

If you can’t be bothered with selling, donate to any charity shop.
Or give it to me 😄

TheOhGodOfHangovers · 02/10/2023 00:29

Bigger charities would probably sell it through their own eBay shop.

Yes this. Especially the "send it to me" bit Wink

But whatever you decide to do please make sure you make it clear that they may not be complete. DS has never gotten over saving up to buy a second hand death star that the seller promised was complete. It wasn't. Sad

Did he manage to buy the missing pieces from bricklink?

TheSpottedZebra · 02/10/2023 00:40

Or you could hire a local child/teen to build the sets and check they are complete.

Then ebay them.

Floralnomad · 02/10/2023 00:47

If they are ‘valuable ‘ sets it’s worth spending time rebuilding them as they do sell , particularly ones that have been discontinued .

Some. Not all. Money was an issue, plus not all of them on were on there. All the mini figs were missing and we couldn't afford them separately.

That’s really bad. Your poor DS! I hope he left negative feedback. Was it on ebay or bricklink?

SleepingStandingUp · 02/10/2023 00:54

Can you find the time to check them? Or is there someone in your circle who would?

Actually I don't think we did get any spares, my mum was looking into it, i can't remember why we didn't get them in the end.

He bought it on shpock I think. He was only about 7.

Whatsnewpussyhat · 02/10/2023 00:58

Surely if you have the instruction books you can check off the pieces using the part list at the back?

No need to rebuild.

TadpolesInPool · 02/10/2023 01:03

I spent hours and hours recreating lego sets (not building, just checking against instructions) and sold loads of sets for €€€€. Once the best sets were sold I sold some plain bricks by the kg.

It is well worth knowing what bits are missing so you can add it to the adverts.

I've sold over 1000€ worth of Lego. Took many hours though. (Sold through a French selling site)

Also worth checking what the sets are selling for first. I bought a giant pirate Lego ship for 85 euros in 2009. Sold it last year for 390 euros!

This is very true. I do similar but I use parts lists online because I can zoom in on that (rubbish eyesight). e.g. here is list for a Star Wars set we’ve got: Sandcrawler parts list

Good tip about checking parts list thank you. I don’t have the time or patience to build them.

The main problem is sorting out the tiny pieces to discover which go with each model.

There's some Facebook groups for it. My hubby is a collector and that's what he uses for buying and selling.

Sunshinenrain · 02/10/2023 06:43

If you want money for them then probably eBay.

If you want them gone but don’t want money for them then you can look into your ARBs for children with SEND.

Every place I’ve worked in for children with SEND love Lego.
Most places it needs to be bought by the staff with their own money too.

herbygarden · 02/10/2023 06:45

Specialist toy auction, these always include Lego! Then they do all the work for you :)

Woollymonster · 02/10/2023 12:23

What does ARB mean?

KenAdams · 02/10/2023 12:30

Bricklink but you'd need to know if sets are complete. You could sell them as a bulk joblot by weight but you'll get less for it. If you do look at selling by weight let me know please.

This is a bottle neck for us too. We have lots of sets, plus the booklets, but the models started breaking bits off and they've got all jumbled together over the years.

If anyone has a clever method to sort the bricks out, then assign them to sets, I'd be very interested...

Wishitsnows · 02/10/2023 12:34

I’ve sold Lego on Vinted. If you don’t want to build them just say as seen in photo, unsure if any pieces missing

stayathomer · 02/10/2023 12:36

Is the person who owned/owns the lego okay with you selling? My brother was gutted my mum gave away some of his lego sets and now he has children he mentions it form time to time. Lego never ever goes out of fashion. We get boxes of it on ebay every so often, boxes of random bricks which we wash (some of them are FILTHY, as in you touch them and dirt comes off!)

Woollymonster · 02/10/2023 13:14

Yes, I have checked with the now adult person that I can get rid of it. It’s just gathering dust in the attic.

I would do this for free! I recently did it for my childhood Lego before handing each set to my DCs - it was very relaxing!
