Inexpensive but thoughtful gift

DH has a birthday coming up. We decided to spend most of our usual budget on a family holiday next year and give each other something thoughtful but cheap for birthdays/Xmas. Usually something we’ve put a bit of effort into.

Any ideas?!

What kind of stuff does he like hobbies, interests ?It’s usually someone showing that they are aware of mine that makes a present thoughtful ?

Someone on another thread mentioned doing a year of 'blind date' books. They bought 12 x books from charity shops, wrapped them in brown paper and wrote a little description on the front. I thought that was such a great idea.

Or you could do three months worth and add little extras like a mini bottle of wine and fancy hot chocolate and marshmallows etc for each box.

Obviously this only works if he likes reading!

He loves music and films, particularly sci fi or 80s films. He did like reading but we have small kids so he’s switched to audio books so he can cook/clean etc while he listens. I love the 12 dates idea.. maybe I could wrap up 12 things we can do for a date night once a month… but I’m not sure what.

Contact his friends and family members he's in good contact with and work together: everyone records themselves saying nice things about him, then you join these videos (there are free programs like Clipify to do that, or apps like Inshot).

Here are some other birthday video ideas, you can include his photos and music he likes, clips from his favorite movies, etc.
