How big would someone's hair have to be for you to describe it as massive?

Can't get this out of my head. Random woman said to me the other day "Oh wow, your hair is massive". Quite possibly she last saw me two years ago when I had none (thanks chemo) but still, I can't quite get over the comment. I don't think it's that big, though it is thick and curly, and I'm now feeling a bit paranoid! So how big is too big in hair terms?

Never too big! The more volume, the better. All the best with your treatment X

No amount of hair would have me describing it as "massive". What an odd thing to say. Where your hair with pride, you've earned it.

Big hair is fantastic ignore your acquaintance she is clearly inflicted with foot in mouth disease!

I don't think I've ever described hair as massive. But great that yours has regrown, I'm sure you look great.

The more volume, the better! Nothing better than a good head of luxuriant hair!

Goneback2school · 30/09/2023 23:37

No chance she was using the slang meaning? Great/ awesome.

Annonymiss123 · 30/09/2023 23:37

Was she Irish by any chance? Where I’m from that would be translated as “your hair is fabulous!”.

Missingmyusername · 30/09/2023 23:41

Cousin It level. Otherwise it’s lovely to have thick hair!

PinkArt · 30/09/2023 23:42

To me it's a huge compliment - big hair is so beautiful. Gorgeous, bouncy, luscious. And if I said it to someone who's been through chemo then it's be with an additional level of joy that your were visibly recovered or recovering.

There's no such thing as hair that's too big. DDs hair is massive each side is bigger than her face.

AmicableHonest · 30/09/2023 23:44

Thanks for the reassurance. English isn't her first language, though her English is excellent, so perhaps it was meant as a positive. She came across as more shocked than complimentary though!

In Hiberno-English, ‘massive’ is not an indication of size, but a compliment, the equivalent of ‘fabulous’. ‘Your hair is massive’ means ‘Excellent hair’.

JaneJeffer · 30/09/2023 23:57

I was just going to ask if she learnt to speak English in Ireland @CountessKathleen 😂

LifesShortTalkFast · 01/10/2023 00:06

"The higher the hair, the closer to God"

She probably meant it as a compliment. Enjoy your glorious hair and don't give it another thought, OP!

PikachuChickenRice · 01/10/2023 00:08

Given that you went through chemo it's great that your hair's come back fully in all its glory... meaning you're healthy again. Maybe that's the message she was trying to get across.

I thought that as well.
Not that I'd use the term itself in that context.
