Charlie Bingham in an Air Fryer?

NeedTheSeaside · 30/09/2023 15:53

I bought a CB meal (vegetarian lasagne) and was wondering if I needed to put it into a glass dish for the air fryer, so I looked on their website to see if there was any advice. It says not to cook them in an AF & only use a conventional oven.

I can't see why & I really don't want to heat up a single serving meal in the oven.

what say you?

I just bung ready meals in the AF the way I would in the over - in the packaging. Takes less time & I've never had any problems

theduchessofspork · 30/09/2023 15:56

I have put CB meals in an air fryer, why not?

20% lower temp and 20% quicker as a rule

He says not to freeze the rice in his curries so think he is quite picky

bemorebernard · 30/09/2023 15:57

Will he fit in and cook evenly all over 😂😂?

Yes I’ve heated them in an air fryer.

Not to be pedantic but I've been saying Charlie Bingham for a few years, till I realised a couple of weeks ago it was Bigham.

I've just been chuckling at thought of CB in an air fryer - I knew what you meant though OP.

I find the fish pie goes brown on top very quickly and the fish isn't necessarily cooked so exercise caution. I probably need to drop the temperature more and cook for longer. No problems with the wood or paper though.

Dunno, but even if perfectly cooked I don't fancy eating him.

@Redglitter

that was my plan. I don't know why I didn't just do that. Surely if the paper & 'wooden' tray are ok in the oven they'll be ok in an air fryer (smaller oven) I don't know why I bothered looking at his website 🙇🏻‍♀️🙇🏻‍♀️

I don't usually buy ready meals, let alone his 'prepared' (NOT ready) meals. Just fancied lasagne & cba just for me!

i should have made one & frozen the rest!

i don't know why not. Just the site says not to, only to cook in a conventional oven.

yep I think picky & that they think they're a cut above! At the price it had better be nice!!

thank you

& to others who said they have too!!

They’re lovely if cooked to instructions. No idea what they’ll be like if you do your own thing…

An air fryer is an oven. Just reduce the time and temp slightly and keep an eye on it so it doesn’t catch.

@DrMarshaFieldstone

yes, but they actually specifically say NOT to use an AF & to use a conventional oven.

So, it was fine. Made sure it was hot all the way through. It was ok, not quite what I was looking for, but nice enough.

Last night I cooked a CB chicken Korma in the air fryer. Turned out really well. In fact I used a stacking rack so I could cook the rice at the same time. There was also space to cook a naan bread for a few minutes. Just keep an eye on it as not to over cook it. Good meal.

Yazoop · 02/03/2024 09:20

I do this quite often as I am having renovations done and currently only have a makeshift kitchen with an air fryer, plug in hob and a microwave. I’ve cooked the lasagne, korma and fish pie at a reduced time (around 20-25% less cooking time - test it with a thermometer to make sure hot in middle).

Actually comes out a bit better in my eyes as gets nice and crispy/a little charred on the top. I just put it in the wooden container like you do with the oven (as the airfryer is really just a type of oven).

NeedTheSeaside · 02/03/2024 17:45

🤣🤣

I didn't expect to see this thread again!

6 months on I think I've only used the 'Big Oven' once when I cooked several pizzas, just for me I use the AF.

I tried a CB fish pie yesterday in my Ninja 800w air fryer. Pretty much a disaster. I had a look after it had been in there for 20 minutes at 200 degrees and it was burnt on the top snd not nearly hot enough in the middle. The wooden tray was also burnt on one side. I took it out and put it in the microwave for 5 minutes to heat it all the way through.

DoYouSmokePaul · 19/06/2024 10:17

I often cover things with foil in the air fryer for the first 60-75% of cooking time. Not sure about these particular meals but eg I couldn’t bake frozen unbaked croissants in the air fryer as they’d burn but still be raw inside (even on lower heats) So I do eg 15mins under foil but remove it for another 5 at the end to brown the outside.

I have a different model but that would have been way too hot in my AF. I almost never go over 190°C. Your fish pie probably needed 175-180°.

Good to know what temperature but for how long?

My rule of thumb is to reduce the fan oven temperature on the pack by 20 degrees and the time by 20%.

IWantToBeASleepingCat · 19/06/2024 18:23

Treat an Airfryer like a mini oven.. because that's basically what it is.
