What's involved in a creative writing course?

Thinking of signing up for one. It's not cheap so was wondering what sort of things are covered generally. An online one I did a few years ago focused on the 5 senses quite a lot and I found it a bit slow and boring. Thanks

Any decent course should give fairly full details of its content before you sign up …

Surely the thing to do is look for one that focuses on the things you want to learn or explore? What is that - playwriting, poetry, essays, the novel?

And what level is the course? Is entry competitive or dependent on any specific criteria, or is it open to all? What sort of cohort of students are you looking for? What is the goal, on completion?

Well, is it an evening class, Curtis Brown or an MFA? What do you want out of it — writing prompts and a bit of gentle encouragement or to come put with a draft of a full novel and industry connections?

You might have more luck on the Creative Writing topic?

What d’you mean by ‘more luck’, @embramum ? I’d give exactly the same answer on the Creative Writing topic. I don’t feel the OP has narrowed down her field sufficiently (at least on this thread) to enable any specific sharing of experience.

But I guess you might attract more responses if you ask to have your thread moved, @Funkyslippers!

Edited

I read the comment to mean that many people might miss it in 'chat' and would be more likely to read it and respond to the question in the 'creative writing' topic, since that's where writers tend to hang out.

For instance, you'll get more informative and useful answers if you post a gardening question in the 'gardening' topic, so I would have thought the same might apply here.

Yes, I got there more slowly, @griegwithhimandhim! Grin
