Hate myself (surgery related)

Orientalnamechange · 30/09/2023 10:13

I’ve recently undergone some cosmetic surgery.
I’ve wanted it done for a long time.
but the recovery is far worse than I expected.
I can still only just walk to the toilet!
I hate not being able to go out with DP and be normal
I hate myself for being so vain

I know probably lots of you will say I got what I deserved but I’m just feeling very low today

Surgery, its complications and recovery time particularly regarding aesthetics is not acknowledged enough. Pain and immobility are not understood and appreciated. Its a general trait.

Celebrities appear weeks after surgery like they woke up one morning having undergone an overnight transformation with no swelling or pain relief needed.

You will get better OP but it takes time and you can't buy that along with operation package unfortunately. Follow doctors orders and seek medical advice if become worried about anything.

Hope you get the results you wanted x

Thank you that means a lot.
It's true we don't see the weeks of recovery that celebs go through and just how difficult it is

I thought a few weeks in bed would be blissful, but that's only if you have a choice I guess.
Id love to just wander round the supermarket or take the dog for a walk

It'll be another fortnight, then you'll find you feel much better.

megletthesecond · 30/09/2023 12:08

Bless you. You'll get there in time.
Celebs cover their tracks / pre-shoot instagram pics and have more support than civilians do so we never see their post op recovery.

Smartiepants79 · 30/09/2023 12:13

Focus on why you’ve done it. Presumably for a good reason. The outcome should definitely be positive?
You’re in a much better position than most after surgery. You know that in a few weeks you will have healed and you can go about your life healthy and well. No diagnosis hanging over you.(I presume?)
Its ok to feel a bit crap for a while but it should be onwards and upwards from now.

CarPour · 30/09/2023 12:14

You don't deserve to feel crap and I don't think your vain, but equally what did you expect? You've had surgery. Your body needs to heal.

You will get better, but recovery from any surgery takes a long time

Orientalnamechange · 30/09/2023 13:39

Thank you for being so kind

I think I expect too much from my body! But I am normally very fit and busy and being like this is hard

OP posts:
FraidyPuss · 30/09/2023 14:00

It's hard, but it will pass.

Take the time to do enjoyable things at home in the interim.

Twazique · 30/09/2023 15:57

You need a good box set and a couple of bottles of Lucozade! There is a new season of Ghosts soon, that will cheer you up.

Orientalnamechange · 30/09/2023 16:31

I'm watching two already 😂
It's just not the same when you can't actually do anything else

Mynewnameis · 30/09/2023 16:34

Are you sure you don't have an infection or something?

BadBadDecisions · 30/09/2023 16:45

Is it a TT? I had one and I'd say the first 4/5 days were brutal, then it was just kinda mind numbingly achy and boring after that (things got less boring and more dicey when I got an infection so don't do what I did and try to do too much),

MaidOfSteel · 30/09/2023 16:56

It will pass. Your body is telling you it is still healing and that you need to rest. Each day you're getting a bit better. And just think how great you'll feel, and look, in just a few weeks!

Orientalnamechange · 01/10/2023 12:15

@BadBadDecisions yes it is, brutal is exactly what it is

DP washed my hair today and it was possibly the loveliest thing ever

Feeling a bit more mobile today, less pain but more unstable! Possibly moving too quick??

BadBadDecisions · 01/10/2023 12:19

Probably if you're anything like me!

I used to set a five minute timer and walk slowly round the house once an hour. My wound ended up not closing properly and I had about six weeks of dressing changes etc at the private clinic.

Really, you need to let it heal. Sit on your arse! Don't straighten yourself out when you lie down. Eat plenty of fruit and veg and drink tons of water so you don't get constipated (I did and felt some internal stitches pop when I tried to go...)

It's so worth it, I'm thrilled with it, but it was a hard few weeks. Just take your time.

Orientalnamechange · 01/10/2023 13:43

Thank you @BadBadDecisions
I am lying propped up with head and feet raised as annoying as that is!!
