Canny move in the morning

saymynamesaymy · 30/09/2023 05:36

Physio thinks I have sacroilititus. I also have a herniated disc.
I literally cannot move in the morning, it takes all of my will to manage to turn over the pain is immense. It doesn't help that I'm also 20 weeks pregnant !
Any tips for making it easier in the morning ? Once I'm up after about 15 mins my back is okay, it warms up and the stiffness and pain goes then.
I'm only 33 I can't believe how hard it is getting out of bed

Sounds awful.

Are you taking painkillers? If so can you wake up half an hour before you have to get up to take painkillers so they have started to work before you have to move? Also would a heat pad or similar help in any way?

saymynamesaymy · 30/09/2023 06:07

Yeah I am prescribed codeine. I could do that by leaving some on the bedside table I suppose but didn't really want to have to take them so early but if I have to, I have to.
I do take a hot water bottle to bed with me but it's cold by the morning !

Some of those heat packs that activate by snapping them, or a heated blanket. Is there anyone else at home? They could bring you a heated wheat bag.

We have a heated fitted sheet. The one we have has 2 sides, so you can just turn on your half. It warms up quickly (5-10mins). I like it better than a blanket as you sleep on top of it.

I have an electric heat pad that has a switch halfway along the flex. It is plugged in next to my bed and I can switch it on without moving. I got it in Lidl about 10 years ago but I am sure you could find one on amazon.

Heated sheets/pads sound good !

Sacroilititus is inflammation. Codeine isn't really a great drug to use, mainly because it just masks the pain without tackling the cause ( there is also some small fears about using it in pregnancy).
Drug wise a non steroid anti inflammatory drug would be better
Even more better would be to do regular stretches of your legs to reduce tension in the lower back/buttocks.
Acupuncture could also be really helpful and reducing inflammation.
I know the pain as had it for several years, stretching was a game changer. Hope you find a solution!

Changing what you eat can help reduce inflammation. Mainly cutting out wheat and sugar, if you want to give it a go.

Thanks. I can't take ibuprofen or anything anti flammatory as I'm 20 weeks pregnant.

Sorry forgot to say I do do some stretches the physio gave me.
The morning is the worst time pain wise, it's like my back is locked into place

When did this start?

saymynamesaymy · 30/09/2023 09:18

@Aquamarine1029 years ago, during pregnancy with my first I developed sciatica, the pain progressed and it just never went away and got worse

The morning pain though is more like this last year

Sympathies op I had sacroilitis (sp?) from 18 weeks when I was pregnant and it was fucking hideous. I had to get signed off work as couldn't do the commute.

Physio did nothing for me I went to an osteopath who did manage to get me mobile enough to at least hobble around a bit.

I had a specific SI support belt that helped a bit too.

The good news is as soon as Dts were delivered it went away. Hope you get some relief soon

Wake your husband up to bring you a hot water bottle.
