What to do in Alton Towers if you hate rollercoasters?

i'm taking 14yo dd and a friend to Alton Towers next Friday (inset day) for her birthday. They are beside themselves with joy. I, on the other hand, am not. I'm a complete whimp and rollercoasters are my idea of a living hell. They make me feel sick and I just don't get the "scare yourself silly for fun" thing. It's not fun. It's scary!

Will there be anything for me to do? Or should I just bring a laptop and try and do some work?

Any tips would be appreciated.

I'd just drop them off and go somewhere local for the day. I didn't see my 14yo and her friend all day, but I was on the rides with my youngest. If I wasn't going on anything, I wouldn't pay to get in.

As a fellow rollercoaster hater you have my sympathy! The gardens there are surprisingly nice if it's dry and there is a small aquarium you could look round but not much else I'm afraid.

I'm another one who was surprised at how nice the gardens were. I found myself a quiet, sunny spot and read my book for a couple of hours. At that age, I'd drop and run.

Just drop them off and have a walk around the local village , it's beautiful.

We're a roller coaster hating family, we go to Alton Towers for the water park and the roller coaster restaurant.

to be honest, the best thing is to go in the park and find a bench, sit on it with a good book, then send them on their way with all mobile phones switched on and ringers set to ring!!! it is a heck of a walk between the rollercoasters!!!!

Or book yourself into the spa there?

I wandered around holding their bags for a while then once I was satisfied they wouldn't get lost or fall out of any rollercoasters I left them and sat in the gardens. I think it would be quite boring if it was raining and you just had to hang out in fast food cafes all day. I'm not sure I would be confident leaving them in the park though if I wasn't around.

The gardens are lovely, definitely worth a visit.

There’s loads of places to stop for coffee around the park. Small aquarium in the pirate area.

Spa, water park and mini-golf all available near the hotels (might need to book).

I’d quite enjoy a day wandering around on my own in peace.

You can look round parts of the old building too, that’s also nice and very quiet.
