Lost my job

So this morning I went into work and was hauled into the office with the director and my manager..

Told me they are terminating my contract because they had reviewed my performance over the last few weeks and it wasn't up to par. No offer of extra training or anything just basically cya!

Am I right to feel upset? I was out of my probation but have only been at thy company since February. I'm fact they ended my probation early due to the fact I was doing so well so it's a complete you turn!

I feel utterly shit now and at rock bottom.

Oh OP! I’m really sorry to hear this, you must be shocked. They have handled it very insensitively so you are better off without them. Do you have to work a notice period? Give yourself a day or two to feel down and then get back on the horse - there are plenty of opportunities out there and you won’t even remember this blip in a while.

Gem8701 · 28/09/2023 15:34

@Pancakeorcrepe ,yes feel really shocked and let down if I'm honest. No I'm not working my notice which is good because I don't think I'd of been able too. Fingers crossed I find something soon

That absolutely sucks and is so shit that they’ve just sprung that on you out of the blue. The same happened to me once upon a time, and I was absolutely gutted, no warning, no hint that I was doing anything other than perfectly fine then one day ‘cheers then’.

FartSock5000 · 28/09/2023 15:55

@Gem8701 I had something like this happen to me and yes, its a shock and it hurts but you've had a lucky escape because any organisation worth their salt doesn't treat staff like this.

Make sure you are paid for the lack of notice and accrued holiday pay. Your employee contract will state what the notice period THEY owe you should be and they have to pay you that in lieu of the notice PLUS accrued holidays.

Try to focus on yourself. You have something to offer and you WILL find the right organisation for you. Try your local council or NHS. Private sectors can be meat factories compared to Public.

Do not let this get you down. You will look back one day and shake your head at the unprofessionalism shown to you and be glad you got away.

Gem8701 · 28/09/2023 16:03

@FartSock5000 Thank you. It has really knocked my confidence and just feel at a real low ebb. Yes I agree, it was very bad on there part, just hopeful I find something soon!

@SherbetLemonn thank you, it's totally shit isn't it.

dearanon · 28/09/2023 16:03

How long have you worked there op?

February. It says in the opening post.

pompomdaisy · 28/09/2023 16:21

Wow do workplaces actually do this? I work with people who are completely shite and no one ever gets the boot at the end of probation.

AvonCallingBarksdale · 28/09/2023 16:23

That’s rough OP. Like a PP, we have some terrible people at work and it seems virtually impossible to get rid 😬.

Gem8701 · 28/09/2023 17:52

@AvonCallingBarksdale well I guess because I've only been there a few months I don't really have a leg to stand on. It just sucks xx

OP posts:
BlueKaftan · 28/09/2023 18:38

I’m so sorry OP. This is absolutely shit. Just allow it to process for a few days and then get back on your horse. You didn’t deserve this!

AvonCallingBarksdale · 28/09/2023 19:37

@Gem8701 it’s rubbish and sounds like they handled it really, really badly too.

Gem8701 · 28/09/2023 19:39

Yeah... Guess I have to pick myself up and move on

Make sure you speak ACAS or citizens advice so that you are aware of what you are entitled to with regards to pay, holiday, notice in lieu, etc, but you may have a case for unfair dismissal. You may have only been there a few months but there are procedures that should be followed so it is worth checking

eurochick · 28/09/2023 22:08

There's no claim for unfair dismissal if you have under two years' service (with the exception of discrimination in relation to certain protected characteristics).

CloakandDagger1 · 28/09/2023 23:21

Get straight on Indeed.
It does knock your confidence but another better job will come along, and in time you'll look back and be glad things worked out the way they did. I've stressed over so much in my 40 plus yrs, but when I look back now I realise life never stands still for long- so don't dwell, a new job and new work friends you haven't yet met await you! Get back at it!
