Has anyone watched the documentary on Instagram?

I was aware of some of the details of the case but I’d forgotten about the possible Serbian connection, DH’s creepy undertaker and also that her ex partner and manager had been considered.

If was very eerie watching the CCTV footage of her just going about her normal day with no idea of all these mundane tasks being her last.

What are peoples thought on who murdered her? I personally think it was a professional hit due to the likelihood of a silencer on the gun, the spotted Range Rover and also how accurate the shot was…

However two things don’t add up, how the person knew where she was going to be (absolutely no evidence of her being followed) and not quite a few investigators/police coming forward saying they still think it was Barry George.

I’d be really interested in anyone thoughts.

@Andontothenextproblem I think it was a professional hit too- probably as a shot against the bows by someone (or their hitman) featured on crime watch - you don't just happen to have a gun with a silencer on it

She was shot very close to her head so that's why there wasn't much of a sound when she was shot.

Haven't seen the documentary but I know that Jill's brother is on record somewhere for saying he'd like BG to "say exactly what he was doing on the day". He also said he believes that she "was in the wrong place at the wrong time".

But my hunch as always been she was the victim of a hit. It seems too much of a coincidence she that three weeks before she was killed, she presented a charity appeal to raise money for Kosovan refugees.

BingBunnyBlues · 28/09/2023 15:08

Even if you'd asked him the same week, and if we assume he's innocent of the murder, BG might not have been able to give a faithful account of his movements. He spent his days wandering the streets approaching people at random, and living in his own chaotic fabulist mind; I doubt he even knows when he's lying tbh. He's a very disordered person.

MaidOfSteel · 28/09/2023 15:16

I often wonder if it was a mistaken identity thing.

As far as I was aware, she wasn't an investigative reporter; the kind who spend months and years going deep into issues to expose wrongdoing. I just can't imagine some foreign or other terrorist group/crime gang thinking killing her would stop any investigation. It doesn't make sense to me.

Peverellshire · 28/09/2023 16:34

@MaidOfSteel Nick Ross debunks the mistaken identity theory & says parents/family not looking for anyone else.

DivingForLove · 03/10/2023 15:54

Just finished watching it - was never convinced by the BG conviction and even less convinced now.

In my mind it was a Serbian hit.

DivingForLove · 03/10/2023 15:58

Although the ex crim is intriguing 😳

IveHadItUpToHere · 04/10/2023 11:01

I thought the documentary might mention the theory that came out in the Elite model abuse case but it didn't.
Barry George was a deeply unsettling figure. The way he moved the female journalist and mimed murdering her was really uncomfortable.
If it was a Serbian hit, then I've no doubt the security services know and deliberately pointed the police away from that angle for political reasons.

VesperLynne · 04/10/2023 11:03

Mistaken identity is my guess.

thecatsthecats · 04/10/2023 11:25

People don't seem to know how useless silencers are.

They don't turn a loud bang into a little phut like in the movies. They turn a loud bang into a less loud bang.

BMW6 · 04/10/2023 11:42

Having read the Nick Ross article above I think it was Barry George.

IveHadItUpToHere · 04/10/2023 11:45

I think Nick Ross' article is completely correct on the statistics. I attended a talk from a statistician once and they used the OJ case to explain how people misunderstand statistics and how they're often used incorrectly in court. Tbh I was amazed the Letby case relied so much on statistics but didn't call any statisticians to give evidence.
My only question about the Nick Ross article is my impression from the Netflix documentary wasn't that the conviction was quashed because of the statistics around gunshot residue. I thought it was concerning whether or not it was gunshot residue at all.

IveHadItUpToHere · 04/10/2023 12:08

Although, from memory of the talk I attended, the other aspect that influences the statistics isn't just 'what % of the general population would have gunshot residue in a coat pocket' but 'what % of people who are of interest in a crime where that exact gun has been used would have matching gunshot residue in a pocket' ?
I might have to go back and watch the bit about the forensics for the appeal again because, if Nick Ross' article is right, then I obviously completely misunderstood the grounds for the appeal.

autumncolor · 08/10/2023 13:09

It seemed from the documentary that the police wanted to get someone for her murder regardless of whether he was guilty or not, I can imagine the pressure police detectives had to close the case

Flingafling · 08/10/2023 21:47

I honestly don’t think we will ever know but I can’t feel much sympathy for Barry George either way. Having him locked up for a few years probably kept many women safe.
