Sister has told me she's going to stay with me one or two nights a week

She's moving 2.5 hours away to live with her boyfriend and works a lot remotely but has to attend office 1 or 2 days at most every week and she's told me she's going to stay with me those nights. Am I being mean to not really want this every week, even though I live alone?

Ha ha! Was just thinking the same.

Is she planning to contribute or is she expecting the guest treatment each time?

I actually wouldn't mind my sister staying fairly frequently but she'd have to take us as she finds us, bring her own food and change her bed herself and put the sheets through the wash. I couldn't guarantee everything would be clean and tidy for her or that the kids wouldn't keep her awake at night.

What did you say to her when she told you this?

longtompot · 28/09/2023 13:12

She is the mean one for not asking you but telling you.

billyt · 28/09/2023 13:13

No is a complete sentence (as said many, many times on MN.)

AnneLovesGilbert · 28/09/2023 13:18

😂😂😂 she’s doesn’t care about your feelings by being so blatant so fear not about hers when you tell her it’s not happening. Has she got form for taking the piss?

uncomfortablydumb53 · 28/09/2023 13:19

Of course you're not mean. She's planning to invade your space without your agreement... and not just once she is the epitome of a CF
Shut her down now
" That doesn't work for me" is clear enough, no need to explain your decision

In a spirit of compromise, could you offer once a month or is a total no? If it is - fine, say so.
