Tried all the usual creams, ovexed the whole family 4 times in about 12 weeks, took him to a dr who prescribed a steroid cream that I used for a week, it scabbed over then became sore again.
I wash it after every poo, keep his nails short, make sure it’s patted dry after the nightly bath, remind him to wash his hands about 20 times a day.
What next? It’s been red and inflamed on and off since the start of July!

Have you tried any creams? When my older one gets the occasional sore bum I use a bit of the baby’s nappy cream and it works really well.

lol cheers pig. I read all but the first few words.

Treat it like eczema and wash with aqueous cream instead of soap, pat dry, then barrier cream. And see the GP again.

Any chance he’s got a fungal infection on top of it all? Could maybe try a week of canestan if you’ve got a wait for a GP appointment.

My DD has eczema and sometimes it's hard to know how much of the problem is the eczema and how much is the scratch/itch cycle (they're itchy so they scratch, scratching damages the skin which makes it itchy, which makes them scratch, which makes them itchy....)

As above poster says, make sure you are using very gently cleansers, aqueous cream instead of soap, more cream and more frequently then you think you really need, at the very least morning and night but ideally repeat during the day. Also make sure he cannot scratch in his sleep so see if you can find a onesie which will stop him getting his fingernails in. We have always kept DDs nails short and filed and she can still scratch till she bleeds during her sleep.

@Astromelia yes the gp said it looked like it had turned fungal so we were given timodene cream to use for a week. As I said this caused it to scab over but once we stopped using the cream it was back to being sore again.
I think I’m going to have to ring the drs again tomorrow.
