Help! How to care for a wavy wig

Hello! I usually get bog standard straight wigs online but I really fancy trying something a bit different. I really like wavy styles but I'm unsure and not very confident how to care for it. I wear a wig every day so hoping it's not too much of a faff. I'll try to attach the ones I'm thinking of...

Hello Tabby
Did you get your wavy wig and if so how’s it going ,I also have to wear a wig every day so know how daunting it is to change .
I am just going through a process of have a hair piece made for the front of my hair and I’m going to go wavy & blonde so very nervous but also excited .
Hope it worked out for you

I chickened out of a wavy style!

Really regret not just going for it. Maybe next time.

I was nervous because I've only ever had straight hair and then straight hair wigs so it sounds silly but I worried it would obviously be a wig. But I know that's my insecurity talking.

How fantastic to have a wig made for you! Just the opportunity to have something made so it will fit you and styled for you. I'm sure you will look lovely ☺️

If you don't mind, please let me know how you get on caring for the style. Would really appreciate hearing about a real life experience.

I'm so glad you responded to my thread. Tell me to be brave!!

Hi tabby
I will update when I get sorted but it will be 3 months for it to arrive . I will be very nervous has the wigs I wear are short has that is how I always wore my bio hair , but I’ve always wanted a beach wave style lol 😂 .
I find people asking have I changed my style the most upsetting has I’m very private about my hair loss . What about you are you brave enough to say you wear wigs .

Hey Silver!

I've mostly found the well meaning people the worst iyswim? Like I don't want to discuss it! Then it makes you feel the need to address it. I get really emotional.

If it's someone I don't know or know well, I just reply "thanks" or keep it simple and superficial but I'm pretty open about wearing wigs with close friends. I got to a point where I felt that the shame of me wearing a wig actually belonged to the people who made cruel comments so that helped me open up to friends I trust.

Luckily my GP is brilliant. She thinks the colours have become so natural these last few years whereas they were generally just a block of colour previously.

I used to sit on buses and some random passenger would ask about my hair, a shop worker even asked if I had cancer. It was a gift to my abusive mother as you can imagine. But I'm in a good place now; I have a husband who is supportive and caring about my wigless self, a fantastic DC and good friends. I hope you have good people around you ❤️

Oh, my GP referred me to the Orthotics department at our local hospital so I get my wigs via the NHS. The salon I go to are really helpful and gave me some great tips but the parking is awful and I'm disabled so since COVID I just email the purchase order from Orthotics to the salon and they courier the chosen wigs to me.

Perhaps I would feel more confident trying a wavy wig on first? Maybe a cheap one from eBay or Amazon just to see the style on me first from the safety of my own home!

Hi Tabby
Thats how feel I have only told a few people has I don’t want there sympathy ,I work with loads of women so I find very difficult when they are talking about going to hairdresser etc .
I hope can can get to stage where I can freely say yeah I’ve lost my hair and feel ok with it . I suffer from frontal fibrosing alapecia . I went to see someone who Is doing my hair piece for me and I tried a couple of wavy wigs and Ellen Willie seems to be the most light weight and not masses of hair . Hope u get your wavy wig soon and you feel great in it .
I will let u know how I get on with mine .

TreeBlindMice · 17/05/2024 18:26

Hi @TabbyBeast

Was the wavy one synthetic or human

I find simplywigs (google them) really good... lots of choice and no issues returning if the fit or color isn't good

If have a medical reason then VAT free
