Housekeeping hacks

Hello!

I struggle keeping my house clean, tend to look past dishes and dust and then it all piles up. Have recently got a dishwasher, hoping to help the load! Only me and DH and the dog so I don’t know how we have got so bad.

Was chatting about my undomesticated ways about this, and she was telling me little things that make life easier, such as:

-use fairly liquid to clean the bath, cleans it better than bathroom spray. scrub a layer of foamy fairy liquid over the bath and let it do it’s work, while it’s soaking scrub the toilet etc, then rinse off bath. Ta da, clean(ish) bathroom in ten mins. Tried it myself and it’s blown my mind, I’ve always dealt with each individual bit at a time so it’s taken me from 30 mins to 10.

-try to pad out any dinners such as bolognese, curry etc with as much veg as possible. Creates an extra portion - so can freeze it and voila, easy batch cooking. And just keep doing that to build up a supply. Batch cooking always seemed like such a chore, I never thought of it as simply as that, I always envisioned a full day spent in the kitchen.

-when frying an egg, put the lid on the frying pan. Steam helps cook the egg without the bottom getting burnt while the top still cooks

-I didn’t realise ‘lights’ could be washed with white washing. As in a pale blue T-shirt can go in with a white shirt. I’ve always been meticulous about this as my mum drummed it into me that mixing anything else in will cause whites to go grey. Mind blown, laundry is about to get easier!

so, ladies and gents, let’s all help each other - what little tip can you pass on to me everyone that will help lighten the load in the tiniest way??

Declutter. Reorganise.

Most people don’t need half the stuff in their house and it just creates places for dust to accumulate. Minimise your stuff so there is a space for everything to stay organised and off the floor/counters/random drawers.

Oh yeah and soak your oven trays and racks in the bath with hot water and dishwasher tablets overnight, lifts most of the grime off

Who is the she?!

I like the washing up liquid idea-I'll try that!

"Don't put it down, put it away"

this has changed my life with how organised and tidy the house is with two children, instead of just moving mess from one area to the other everything gets put back in its home from the get go. Just trying to drum it into the rest of the household now.

I also set a 30 minute timer every night and do whatever I can cleaning wise within that time, the more you do it the quicker you'll get.

I use fairy liquid to clean almost everything, have a spray bottle that I fill with warm water and a little fairy and use for the kitchen doors (high gloss and horrible), glass dining table, windows, leather couch (can smell like dog so gets wiped down a few times a week) the list is endless really, brilliant stuff, makes taps nice and shiny too.

We follow the organised mum method which isn’t for everyone and which we have to adapt a little but it keeps the place looking good and both DH and I know exactly what needs done and when, I do feel like we dissolve into chaos a bit whenever we stop following it, it has become so ingrained for us now.
