Would you move along one seat?

AmandasFleckerl · 26/09/2023 16:47

I have bought two tickets to see a comedian at my local theatre. But when I went to pick seats there were only odd single seats dotted around. In the front row in the circle there were two seats available but there are 4 seats already booked between them. My seats are N7 and N12.
If you were asked politely whether you would mind moving one seat along so that I could sit next to my friend, would you oblige or object. Looking to work out whether to ask them or make the best of the situation.

Personally I wouldn't mind too much but I'm nice like that😄

Dolores87 · 26/09/2023 16:49

I would move up but you do run the risk of someone saying no so I wouldn't count on it.

Trisolaris · 26/09/2023 16:49

It depends. I would imagine if they left odd ones either side it’s because they chose the 4 with the best view and don’t want to be a bit further over.

Drews · 26/09/2023 16:49

Depends if I'd have to give up an end row seat which I wouldn't give up.

PenhillDarkMonarch · 26/09/2023 16:49

I would probably move along if asked really nicely unless it materially changed my view or I didn't get seat I'd specifically wanted/needed.

But if I were one doing the asking I would...

a) be prepared to sit seperately, if they said no
b) go armed with a couple of boxes of malteasers as a 'bribe' / to thank them for moving - if they did

mynewusername2023 · 26/09/2023 16:49

I would move but only because the seats are already all middle of the row.

JayAlfredPrufrock · 26/09/2023 16:50

If it has the same view not a problem. Someone asked me to move once, behind a pillar.

Same. Otherwise, I wouldn't mind. Nothing comes between me and an aisle seat though.

MamaDollyorJesus · 26/09/2023 16:52

I wouldn't - generally I've booked seats early enough so that I could sit with my group in a preferred seat location so I'd be annoyed by someone less organised thinking they could have my seat.

I've had my panto tickets since june

Notthisagainpart2 · 26/09/2023 16:53

Probably not but there could be something about those seats I'd prefer eg I like being in the middle for the best view

Notthisagainpart2 · 26/09/2023 16:53

Also I personally wouldn't risk it.

were there seats together you could have bought?

Notagains · 26/09/2023 16:54

I probably would but it depends where the seats are really. I wouldn't want to move from a middle seat to a restricted view or from an aisle seat.
There may be a reason why they booked those 4 seats

AmandasFleckerl · 26/09/2023 16:55

It wouldn’t change the view, no seats are restricted viewing and seat 7 is the third seat in. There are 4 over one side then 5 to 22 in the row I’m on, then 23 to 26 on the right.

TwinkleTwinkle3 · 26/09/2023 16:56

I wouldn’t as I book tickets months beforehand.

EmpressaurusOfCats · 26/09/2023 16:58

Probably. But being short, it would very much depend on the height of the person sitting in front.

HollyFern1110 · 26/09/2023 16:58

I'd move if the view was the same TBH. If I had booked seat 8, then I'm assuming the view from seat 9 would be similar.

What you can't dictate is which way the group of 4 decide to move. For example, if seats 11&12 have a better position than seats 7&8 you can't ask them to take seat 7 & give you 11.

None together, they’re all just odd single seats dotted around. There were only about 15 seats left for the show.

Yeah of course. If it won't change their view I'm not sure why anyone wouldn't. I guess you might get someone who won't out of principle because they "booked months in advance"

Front row in the upper circle, I made a mistake and said circle in my OP.

No I wouldn’t. Unless the show was literally about to start and I knew the ‘empty’ seat was actually empty. Or the empty seat had a better view or smaller person sitting in the seat in front of it.

I would think it was colossally cheeky to ask me to move.

felisha54 · 26/09/2023 17:04

I would as long as I was still sitting next to whoever I came with. I personally wouldn't risk it though.

Playaville · 26/09/2023 17:13

Did you not get the option to choose the seats before completing the transaction? That’s what normally happens

AreYouShittingMe · 26/09/2023 17:15

I would, as when I book tickets (usually early) there is plenty of space around, and I know, on the occasion I have booked late, how hard it is to find seats together.
The only time I wouldn't would be if my view would be worse or if the person asking me to move was an arse about it.
As PP have said, you can't bank on the people in the 4 seats agreeing to move.

TulipsTulipTulips · 26/09/2023 17:16

I totally would. If the views the same I can’t see what difference it makes if you’ve booked months in advance.

(Actually I do, it lets some people feel superior…)

ThinkingAgainAndAgain · 26/09/2023 17:16

I would. No problem at all. It if it was a different setting and I had DS with me, there’s no way that I would be able to persuade him to move, however much I wanted to. He has ASD and is very rigid, so we prep him for having a certain swat before going somewhere like a cinema, or taking a journey. There may be similar people in the audience.
